Your thoughts on domain names..

I just found an excellent name for a new blog I'm about to start.

I'm planning in buying the .com .net & .org with that name

it consists of 2 words with blog behind it and sounds way cool..

BUT after doing some research those 2 words are out there in nearly every other domain..

My plan is to build authority in a certain niche by quality information through blog posts...

Because those 2 words are out there, will it hurt me?

Sorry to be so mysterious

I would appreciate it to get some thoughts on this.

-Nick

PS: what I believe myself is that it matters to be unique but these days nearly every good name is taken so if you get your hands on something sweet, even if there are many combination like that it is still fine..

It depends on what your plans are. Do you plan to flip the blog or do you want to build a long-term blog and brand? If you want to go all the way, any domain will do. If you are a short-term player, you need to play by the rules set by domain speculators (ie., no long domains, avoid too many words in the domain, etc etc)

Try to go for something more unique to make an authority site... or use those two words in a way which differentiate them from rest...

I will also recommend you to make a authority site in your niche , but remember provide as much value you can and side by side also concentrate on the publicity and advertising of your site , as you might Know that - " a good idea not spread is an idea waste "

when the similar keywords domain show in the same place , your return or search visitors will confuse which one is your official site .
That is why some company prefer to go with brandname rather then keywords domain name . It too late to trademark it while other competitors already there.

if you really go with that name , you need to defeat it down with SEO which rank higher than them.

The domain name isn't as important as quality content. As long as the name is memorable, go for it. Your time is better spent working on the content than worrying about the domain name.

As you already mentioned that you are focusing on building an authority site, so in this case you are pretty much good with any domain name. But as you said that there are lots of blogs and sites out there with those words in their domain name, I guess the competition will also be high in this case. Because that means those sites are serious about getting ranked for that particular keyword, and hence odds are that there is high competition for that keyword. Due to limited information about your idea, thats all I can tell you. Just let me know if there's anythinh else, and I will be more than happy to help you out.

Oh and, good luck with your new blog. I wish you great success with it :-)

If the domain name is unique and easy to remember, then, you don't have to worry about it. So long as it doesn't infringe on any copyright, I think there's nothing wrong it, anyway you can always brand yourself on the web no matter what.

No, there are billions or trillions of letter combinations and domain names are not scarce. I think you should focus on quality contet and not just in the domain name.
