HUGE SEO COMPANY SCAM

So I mistakenly signed up with a huge seo company for one of my sites. I always like giving seo companies a whack at some of my sites. Its hard to find someone good. So i'm always testing.
So anyway I'm pretty sure they aren't doing anything and its been 3 months.
I just got emailed by a guy who says that he works for them in billing. He says he hates them and wants to get my money back. So if i send him $150 bucks western union...him and his manager will work some magic and get my money back...also remove me from their records so it will look like I never existed.
He sent me a bunch of info on me and even my credit card number to prove himself to me.
They are based out of the Philippines....should I trust him? Anyone ever heard of this?

Omg. Cancel your credit cards now and do a chargeback on the payment you made to them. This is way to fishy. Its 99% fraud.

Other people (Companies or not) should NOT have access to your full credit card number. They're not allowed to store that kind of information and they're not allowed to send such information via email either.

So it's without a doubt a scam. Contact your bank immediately!

Come on man, no offense but Internet Marketing is not a joke or a hobby..It's a real business so start treating it as such and use your brain.

Of course this is a scam. No, you never send anyone money with western union because you will never see it again or hear from them.

Charge back what you have paid if they have not produced what they charged you for and move on.

    Good luck

No I wouldn't be sending any money contact your credit card provider and see if you can get this money back.

This would be throwing more money away in my opinion. Wonder how many people he has already gotten them to pay over the $150.

The only reason to send money through Western Union is to family or very close friends whom you trust implicitly. Done it a few times as a way to get money somewhere fast, in emergencies. Usually to send or receive overseas, often it's the easiest way.

But yeah, you don't use it for business. Not wise at all.

As a general rule of thumb, when someone asks you payment via Western Union, it could be a glaring and huge warning sign for you. Real and established SEO companies have legitimate payment processors set up, and definitely Western Union is not one of them. Plus, with all the phishing scams happening these days, NEVER ever give out your cc details to a complete stranger!

Everyone has picked up on the Western Union thing, and clearly it is a scam. But what if he is telling the truth?

Then you are paying him $150 for him to steal money from his employer on your behalf. Not a wise thing to do.

Either way handing him any money is a bad move. Cut your losses, cancel your credit cards, move on.

Please PM the name of the company to me. I'm based in Manila and own a legitimate, government licensed and accredited 6-year old ICT outsourcing company. I'll ask the local authorities to check out this company, 'cause I just hate it when groups of locals do stupid things and tarnish the reputation of all other legitimate businesses here in our country, considering there are many legitimate startup local companies working hard to sign up international clients just to keep their businesses afloat, and when a large number of them goes down, then that's collectively a lot of unemployed Filipinos, which translates to a lot of local families that could suddenly lose their main livelihood...

      Hi,

There is nothing wrong with Western Union. It is a legitimate service.

I use Western Union to send monthly salaries to my researchers in China. I also use it to pay for stuff I buy from known suppliers there. Very fast, cheap and convenient.

So, I'm using it ONLY for people I know and trust. When things are seriously messed up or undelivered accordingly, it is just a 4 hours flight away to rectify matters with them.

My advice is, use Western Union in business when there are 3 criteria :
      => You know them
      => You trust them
=> You can reach them, easily.

      Otherwise, you're scr3wed.

And I think you're about to be scammed, just like the others are saying.

Its not like some dumb email I got. Ive been asking him a ton of questions for a month. He has told me tons of info that only me and the company know. He even explained the sales tactics and how they hook line and sinker you on the sales call.
So for all you who think this is a stupid question...you dont know the details. So how about you answer it with something productive or keep your pointless comments to yourself because its people like you who fill these forums with pointless junk.
Then it takes me and other warriors more time to read through posts when we are already busy making money and dont have time to read through pointless replys.

Im not into gambling normally...but this one was really tempting. I told him I would send $75 first and the other 75 after he refunded me. I figured it would at least be a fun test even if I did get scammed. Besides...us IM's make more than $75 dollars before we even wake up in the morning right? So who cares if I do get scammed. It will be fun dinner table talk.
But now my conscience is hit and I cant do it since I would be helping him steal.

I don't think this is correct.
Amazon does this. I just punch the "buy" button without having to keep re-entering my card number.

To me, that indicates that a company (Amazon) has stored that information.

i don't think anyone was inferring that your question was dumb, but the question did show a lot of ignorance in this day and age where scams are abundant.

i don't see it as stealing. i see it as getting your money back for services that weren't performed. but to send more money to someone who works for a company that has already scammed you is ridiculous. that's why you should cut your losses.

if you know anything about seo, you can always blog about it, do some seo and ruin this companies rep where they wouldn't get as much business.....then you can tell them you will take down the blog if they do the right thing and refund you since they never did any work. if not, you still get satisfaction in doing something to get a little closure.

i disagree with others that western union is making this whole deal shady. it's the fact that an employee of the company that took your money wants more money. i could care less the conversations you had. scams like this happen all the time and they last a while to set up the mark to send money after trust is built. $150 may not seem like a lot to you to try and get some of your money back, but in the philippines, that equates to over a weeks pay over there. that's a pretty big bribe. also, if this guy was on the up and up and had a good heart, he would try to do it for free for you. after all, he said he didn't like how the company does businesses but he is still working for them. everything smells like rotten eggs, not like roses.

one thing you can do is tell people who this company is and some contact info. i know i would be willing to write the company on your behalf to put a little pressure on. i absolutely hate scammers.

When he asked for the money in the begining he said its because his billing manager has to approve it and he accepts bribes. Obviously he has some kind of financial interest too though. If he is legit...they are obviously splitting it.

      • Checked them out. The domain's registered to a "company" that's based in Van Nuys, California. That's what they also say in their website.

What you can do now is to check out if they're actually a registered company in Van Nuys, California. This should be in the public records. Also check if they're accredited by the state of California to operate business in the state.

Then, if you're based in the US, report your experience to the Internet scam authorities in your area, so they can contact the state of California's local Internet scam authorities to look closer at these guys.

You mentioned they're based in the Philippines, but this may not be the case. They could perhaps be hiring a Philippine-based customer support service provider or a group of individual homebased subcontractor remote assistants to do customer support work for them...
