Where to get reports to give away on opt in page?

What are the best/ a few sites where I can get reports to give away in exchange for an email address?

And what are the names of these..MRR?

I wouldn't recommend using PLR or MRR reports as your
give away gift on your opt-in page.

Instead, create your own free gift so that it contains
your voice and some unique perspective on your subject
    that can't be obtained elsewhere.

OK I think I will write up something myself to establish a better relationship with the person..

How long/ short should a good PDF/report be?

I have read that a short report with quality information can be better?

The report length does not matter. A good report can be a half page or 10 pages. Same with a bad report.
What matters is "Does it answer a need of my target audience?"

Just target it properly, answer the need and try to leave a hook for future communication/information.

There's no one-size-fits-all answer for your question.

It depends upon a whole host of factors like... who
you're targeting, the nature of their problem. what
        solution you're offering, etc.

However, the key is to make sure that your free opt-in
gift is actually CONSUMED (whether that be read, listened
        to or watched).

You want your visitor to be sufficiently impressed by the
free gift they get so that they want to take the next step
with you (what ever that may be).

If you provide some more details about your target audience
and the product/service you're selling, I may be able to give
        you some better pointers.

Well I offer 3 different services - logo design, web design and business cards
My target audience would be small business owners. (possibly more for small offline business's) I do the websites myself and outsource logo's and business cards.

I was thinking of just of doing 1 of these services(eg.logos) to get the opt-in and talking about that and then somehow try to sell them the other services later on.

If I done something like "5 mistakes business's make when choosing a logo"
would this be along thee right lines?

I am not sure how I would follow it up in emails to sell it though.

I have a website where I will be adding a portfolio shortly, maybe I could direct them back there?

          Thanks

If you were to go down the logo route, then put yourself
in the shoes of your target prospect...

What are their biggest questions around the area of getting
a logo? What are they confused by? What are they looking for?
What would they need to believe to use your service for a logo?

Then create a highly informative report/article that helps them
to clarify why they need to get a logo, what they need to have
in a logo and why you offer one of the better solutions to their
            'get a logo' problem.

Create an enticing, low-risk offer that is easy for them to respond
            to.

It could be as short as a page. As long as the information you are sharing it good it wont matter, people will be happy with it.

I don't agree with this at all. It will clearly take more than a page to cover the purposes discussed in post #7 above, and it would be rather a shame to go to all the trouble of preparing a "free report" and then not doing that, wouldn't it?! That's for people who want an open-rate of 15% rather than 85% for their emails ...

Possibly, just for people in the process of seeking a logo designer. But no use at all for your other targeted groups, clearly? It helps to offer information directly relevant to what people are already looking for, which can't (easily) be found elsewhere.

You're in three niches in which people typically make pretty fast decisions, aren't you? Won't you lose a lot of the potential business by trying to sell these services by email? Presumably the "average visitor" to your site will also be looking at many other websites? What are your competitiors doing?

Originally Posted by seanpbh View Post

For people looking for a web designer, it's clearly essential to have a portfolio of previous designs available. Without having that, I wouldn't think it makes the slightest difference whether you have a list or not? Obviously prices, recommendations/testimonials, how well-established the design business is, and a few other factors are relevant, too, but how else do people choose a web designer (or indeed a logo or business card designer), if not by looking at a collection of their previous work?

Yes, this was what I thought originally...so it would would be better to not use email marketing at all.

If I was to use PPC to get traffic to my website (what I plan to do)
would I need a landing page on my website?

The reason I was thinking about landing pages and email marketing was because I read about someone doing it this way, he did't tell me much about it though.

Reports are great, but consider putting a CPA offer there instead where maybe they can "get a free iPhone" or visa card, etc. It's good value for them, plus you'll earn everytime someone submits their information.

I would suggest writing your own or hire a writer to create one for you.

People could be disappointed if they download your report and it's actually something they've read before, word for word.

Alternatively there are several MRR products you can grab right here on the WF. Just try not to pretend they are your own if they are your give away. Be honest and say you purchased rights to someone elses report to give away to help people.

      Best of luck,

For a junk list, gained by methods that make junk lists... (Don't get me wrong I build those to)

But, for a list of real people you plan to talk to, promote to, earn trust... They would hate your guts after they went through the "iphone" CPA loop. The first thing you would hear is... "Get a Rope!"

Building a list of real potential customers, with an 85% open-rate of people who gradually come to respect and trust you, rely on the strength of your recommendations, and buy the things you promote is hard work.

But not such hard work as trying to convince yourself that "15% open-rates are normal in this industry", after you've given them a PLR/MMR freebie instead of something that set their expectations, secured a high open-rate, branded yourself, established your continuity-process and fulfilled the purpose needed by your business, to make money in future.

I write a little "free report" specifically designed and created to be part of my continuity-process and to do all these things (I stress again, "all" of them: that doesn't mean "some of them and hope for the best"; it means "every single one"!) ...
        • Brand myself and my site
        • Fulfil the promise of offering some information of genuine value which they can't find elsewhere
        • Set my subscribers' expectations
        • Ensure that the subsequent email series gets the maximum possible open-rate and attention
        • Continue the process of establishing credibility and trust already commenced on my site
        • Provide content able to interest and impress subscribers enough to grab their attention and make sure they "stay with me" so that out of all the other lists they're also on (let's not pretend they're not!) mine will be the link through which they effectively choose to buy later, when I've established enough trust from them to recommend products
In other words, just like almost everything else that determines people's success/failure in internet marketing, it's almost all about quality and relevance.

"What's in your free report", for most people, most of the time, is probably going to be the biggest single factor affecting the open-rates for the emails in your email series (i.e. the part of the marketing process most closely related to your income).

I offer ten suggested questions to ask yourself about your "free report" before deciding to use it.

I think the more of these questions we can honestly say "yes" to, the more income we're going to make from our subscriber-lists.

          1. Does this report brand me and my site, and ensure that traffic will return to my site rather than to other people's sites?

          2. Does it achieve name-recognition, so that my subscribers will immediately know who I am and look forward to receiving my emails?

          3. Does it include some genuinely valuable and interesting information which people can't find anywhere else online?

          4. Does it set my subscribers' expectations clearly, simply and in a way which I know my email series will fulfil?

          5. After they've read this free report, will they know clearly when the next email's coming, what it's going to contain, and why?

          6. Is it specifically designed to maximize my email open-rates?

          7. Does it continue to increase the credibility my website's already started building?

          8. Is there continuity? Does its content follow on naturally from whatever brought these visitors to my opt-in page in the first place, and impress them enough to want what's coming along after it?

          9. Does it provide something that's really likely to interest people enough to grab their attention and to make sure they "stay with me" so that out of all the other lists they're also on (and let's not pretend that they're not!) mine will be the link through which they effectively choose to buy later, when I've established enough trust with them to recommend products?

          10. Does it make it really clear to them that I'm not "just another marketer" (of the kind they've nearly all so many times before) but that this time they're dealing with "something different"?

If you think you can answer "yes" to those ten questions by using an existing PLR/MMR product, then good luck to you (you're probably going to need it ).

It's hard work, to build a list of real potential customers, with a very high open-rate and attention-rate for your email series.

It's hard work, to ensure that your subscribers gradually but inexorably come to respect and trust you, rely on the strength of your recommendations, and buy what you're promoting.

But not such hard work as trying to convince yourself later that "15% open-rates are normal in this industry", after you've given them something about which the answers to the ten questions above were mostly "no, not so much".

Post #8 of this thread says more.

And post #7 of this thread says it more outspokenly.

TL;DR version: if you use someone else's old PLR/MMR "product" as your "free report", I think you'll probably get what you deserve to get, out of your subscriber-list. For me, anyway, it probably wouldn't be worth trying to use email marketing, if I blew the opportunity by using something like that.

I'll give you the same advice I gave you in your other thread, "What Can I Offer To Get opt-ins?"

Create a book on the importance of branding...since that is what you are basically offering. Include in it: what to look for when choosing a designer...what to look for in a good logo...what to look for in a good website...what to look for in a good business card...tieing your brand together with your logo, business card and website. Five qualities of a good designer...

Then, at the end, give information about how someone who has just learned all that can go to find someone who can deliver exactly what they are looking for...you!

Heck, you could even get someone to turn it into a kindle book for more credibility.

And by book I don't mean a 200 page book...just enough to get your point across. It can be 5 page, 20 pages, 40 pages.

Make sure it is well designed...uses good layout. You're a designer...wow them with the presentation. Show examples of good design.

There is so much you can do with this. All of it better than a $5 PLR report.

My guess is you underestimating your ability to come up with quality content for your report. If you are active in your niche you know a lot about it, and you are trying to appeal to people that don't. So you are already a lot "smarter" than they are and what you know is a step up. And as said above, you "voice" is the key to sealing the deal, so why not start there.

    Good luck, Ed.

Personally I would try to create something yourself

If you really are stuck then PLR is an option but i always recommend to put something together which is unique to you

it doesn't matter how basic it is, there must be something that you can put together of value

bottom line is, if you can't create a quality free report to give away around the niche which you have chosen to build a list in then you probably shouldn't be building a list in that niche because you do need to have some good knowledge of your niche before you start helping others otherwise it will be the blind leading the blind

I strongly believe, for a start, it is better to craft our own report based on our expertise.

In your case it is the technique/business/art of name card creation, web design and logo.

Create a case or scenario to get some profit from it and your potential prospects will love it.

You can easily hire some to write you a small report for your niche. 5- 10 pages.

Another way ...is to reach out to top vendors selling on clickbank...many of them have high quality give away products for list building. Just contact and say you need a freebie for building a list to promote their product.

Some have it as a download on their affiliate page.

You can simply search the Warrior Forum or you can go on Google and look for PLR / MRR products that you can slap your name on it, and edit it as you please. It's a good idea to make the report your own and only use the material as a template. You can even outsource to Fiverr to create a new cover and switch it up for you.

What you are really selling is branding and market presence. Back in the day, I used to ask prospects to take the "Sharpie Test." They'd take a big black marker, open the Yellow Pages to their section, and mark out the various business names and numbers. If their ad still stood out, they passed. If they couldn't tell their ad from the others, they needed help.

Better to put a small price tag on a service you can do quickly and cheaply, and use that as your initial offer. For your lead magnet (your opt-in freebie), you'd use something related to your service.

Let's use Alexa's post about the functions of the opt-in gift.

Say that your initial offer was $50 for a 5-page lead magnet. Low cost, low risk, right?

So your lead magnet would be a short report on the functions of a lead magnet, along with a checklist they could use if they already had something.

These days, you need something that stands out from all the other generic freebies.

For any kind of designer, having some sort of portfolio is a must.

You won't have much success going with prewritten PLR as it won't exactly fit your service or niche.

If you're not a natural writer, then you will want to hire someone who is to create a report to give away to your subscribers. This report should highlight subjects that are similar to what you are offering.

I would suggest you create your own free report because it will make the difference on reads in wanting to come visit your site again or just saying that it's not worth it.

These is a lot of BS information out there and in order for you to stand out you need to give a lot of value.

You don't need to be an expert to create a free report like an ebook or a 3 day video course.

Depending on your niche and what you want to do just open Word and write a short tutorial and create an ebook with it or get your camera and record a small video series packed with value.

Remember that this free gift is the first impression you will give your visitors so make sure its a good one.

    Good luck seanpbh

    1. Write your own report
    2. Buy a PLR/MRR and use it
    3. Buy a PLR/MRR and rewrite it then use it.
    4. Have some write one report for you.

I'd suggest you create it yourself. Doesn't have to be long. Just deliver some great information, and leave room for the paid product that you want to sell to them. Just don't give away all the goodies. It's easy. Heck you have 174 posts here... i'm sure you can take some of that info/content and edit it as the basis of your free report that you want to offer on your opt-in page.

I think I would suggest an interview with somebody who is highly successful in your niche. I am working on this myself right now.

Ask several questions and split the email conversation into about 5 emails and make your offer a 5 part email Q & A session with a successful leader in your niche.

    Just food for thought

  • Sean, you would be better off writing your own opt in report. People sign up to multiple lists to get reports and you want yours to be unique and fresh. It will make your opt ins more active.

Since you want to present yourself as an authority figure, you should always create your own free reports. If you are unsure of your content you could buy a PLR for content ideas/article structure but then write your own report.

      Remember Quality is Everything.

Seems a lot of suggestions only and unless I missed something, nobody ever suggested something implying that they tried their suggestion themselves and has shown a good result, though; some sort of case study. Whether it's good or bad result then it will be a validation somehow and a learning experience.

I'm in the dating niche and would use PLR just the same after a lot of discouraging remarks about its use. But then only after sorting out from the "garbage" out there and rewrite it a little bit.

If we are talking about IM niche PLRs then I found that a lot of them are outdated and don't work but advice on relationships niches don't change much over time.

I'll get back with my results later because meanwhile at the time of this writing, the ad network I'm advertising into wouldn't accept dating niches for reason/s I don't have to explain here.

    Hi Sean,

You have gotten a lot of good advice here, which basically falls into two camps - the 'yes PLR' and 'no PLR' camps.

Over the years, especially early on, I built loads of half-hearted almost-projects with a bit of PLR, a few el cheapo commissioned articles and the inevitable Clickbank links.

Without exception, they flopped badly, even with exceptional traffic through SEO in some cases.

With your proposed business venture here, aim high, very very high and be ambitious.

Too many aspiring Internet Marketers are looking for the lazy, passive business - but is that the kind of list you would want to be on if you were out there looking for solutions (we're all looking for solutions for something)?

If you had a real problem, would you want some PLR 'solution'?

In short, care, really care, about building a brand that will (still) give you real financial independence in 5 or 10 years time rather than chasing a few quick affiliate sales now with mediocre materials (not that you're necessarily proposing that but you get the idea).

And if you don't have valuable knowledge to share right now, go away and research/test the living daylights out of a sub-niche for 3 months and then share what you found. 3 months passes fast. All time passes fast - even Gene Hackman just turned 85!

If your subsequent research/testing work is relevant to me and you can prove your results, I'll be your first customer. And if you continue to deliver, I might be your customer for life.

That's the mindset of market leadership and performance, not how little can I spend on this Lead Magnet or that offer.

As I wrote elsewhere here the other day:

To get the best results from email marketing + marketing in general, think about which of these roles or functions you can serve in a niche (could be more than one or all) for newbies there:
    • Leader/teacher/inspirer (like a black belt teaching white belts)
    • Initiator of change, movement starter
    • Researcher /reviewer/tester (interviews, test drives, case studies)
    • Entertainer
    • Rebel underdog, challenging status quo
    • Tools provider
    • Advocate/critic analyst
    • Community builder/connector
    • Niche industry newsbreaker
The technical mechanics of email marketing are pretty easily mastered but thinking about your brand positioning, committment to leadership of a niche and level of service are much more important.

I know I've gone far beyond the scope of your original question here but your post connects to bigger questions about your proposed business.

Thanks Terry. From your own words the ones that flopped badly were half-hearted built. There must be some quality PLR's out there that if rewritten well and perhaps repackaged and such that it is really to be of value to the recipient instead of some tired and outdated PLR e-book, e.g,, for IM niche, then it might as well work.

Members or readers will appreciate that after trying even a very good PLR that's been rewritten and repackaged, it still flopped so it will save them time trying to use PLR's.

Anyway, that's the way it is in this business, those who succeeded have somehow failed at some point but they persisted. Sometimes you really have to try things out (falling under the 3rd of your categories mentioned). It's not a bad idea to try new things but it's not bad either trying to reduce time by not reinventing the wheel and that's where PLR's serve their purpose. I've seen even experts merely repackaging or presenting their old product (PLR for their exclusive use) in a new light and that revives their sales.

Here's something out of left field...

    Write your own.

Make it huge on quality info... give it the best you've got... fire your biggest cannon.

Watch your opt ins explode, credibility / trust skyrocket and authority hit the stratosphere over night.

The majority of people are afraid to give away their best stuff and keep it for paid customers.

So if your competitors aren't doing it... you have an advantage.

It was best described to me in this way: Movie studios put the best bits in the trailer in order to entice you to go to see the whole movie.

    Think about it.

I would personally create my own report if I was you. The reason being is that if you create a high quality report, your list would usually be of high quality. If you just opt in for PLR reports and eBooks, then it just shows shoddy work since the work is used countless times.

I used to create my own report but give away 2 free PLR guides too just to sweeten the deal of opting in for my list.
