Do you remember Napster.com ?

INTERNET MARKETING

Hey guys,

I just did some research about napster.com and I didn't find anything about their monetization. Does anyone know how they monetized this platform? It must had been generating some $$$, since it was sold to another to company for $85 million and 10 years later it was sold for $125 mil.

So, did this guys made profit or not? After all those lawsuits etc... If anyone has some great information about napster or some good resources then feel free to share.

I remember napster pretty well. Shame it went the way it did.

I assume they monetized through ad revenue, but I don't remember too much.

Probably ad revenue. Or it was just sold on 'potential' since they had a lot of users.
Kinda like that one site...whassit called ... bookface or something?

Did some research about the owners of napser.com and they were Shawn Fanning ( 15 years old at that time, lol ), John Fanning, and Sean Parker. Seems like they were all those oldschool internet marketes and in fact, they are still doing pretty well. Parker was on the forbes magazine few time ago.

Imagine millions upon millions of users DAILY... Just the ad revenue is huge. Then at one point, much like more recent file sharing sites, it was subscription based. If it was getting 100M page impressions a month, that's 100,000 cpm's a month.

I've seen CPM's upwards of $35 and I've seen them at pennies on the low end..

Undoubtedly Napster was making a million a month on ad sales.
