My Plan In Action and The Benefits Of Being a Genuine Marketer

The main reason to build a list is to build relationships.


I was going to put this in a post in a thread here. I thought it would be wiser to make it a thread for more people to see. I do hope it helps a few of you.

I'm going to use myself as an example. My main page is a free gift (How To Make Money Online) for their name and email. Now this is just going to be an eBook of the basics of what I do. Giving them value in how I make money. Telling them what I do, but not showing them.

On my thank you page there will be an offer to my membership (19.99/month FREE 14 day trail). In the membership, I will walk them through step by step on what I do to make money online. In these steps I am an affiliate for the products I use, domain name, hosting, aweber, e cover creator, ext... Through out the steps I tell them, I am an affiliate for the products. Telling them, this is how I make some of my money. This will gain trust and these are products they need. Giving them value in why they need the product, how to use the product, and why I suggest them to use the product.

I explain that a good marketer will buy a product they are looking for through an another marketer (My product or someone else's). Which is true. No reason to not give a marketer some profits if your going to buy it anyways. With some of the products, I will try to make them the best deal I can with a coupon code. Giving them a better deal. I may lose some money but I would rather have their trust.

I will give them tools I use for free. I will give them every tool I possibly can for free. Gaining more trust that I am trying to help them and giving them value.

In the membership I will give them more free gifts with an opt-in form.:confused: Some of you are thinking, that is weird, let me explain. These gifts are in separate niches, copywriting, make money with kindles, how to lift your spirits, ext... They are all in different niches on different lists. Letting me know which member has what interests and wants more information on it.

Now I have a forums section for any problems that any member may have. Me and my partners will help them with their problems and achieve their goals. This is giving great value as it is the closes to a mentor with out paying for one. Instead of suggesting to their problem, I will help solve their problem. Taking the guess work out of it. Giving them true results.

Everything above, I have set up and ready to go. Soon (month or two) I will have an advance section for one on one mentoring in advance marketing. Of course this will have a bigger one time fee. I will explain that if they are not making any money, they are not ready for the advanced section. You need to be making money in order to take it to the next level in learning the psychology of marketing to double your income. Understanding the thought process people go through when buying/marketing a product. All most making a person buy on impulse when they weren't even looking for it. <<< That is just an example. I will be teaching how to use it with ethical tactics. Getting people excited, jumping for joy and ready to go, for a product they truly want.

The whole point for this long post (Now it is a thread) is, now I have lists of buyers (on different lists in different sub niches) looking for more. They trust me and know I am not out there to scam them. I am there to help and make them more money. I have a relationship with them. Most I probably have talk to either through email, forums, phone, or just in person.

- Example - Think about it. Say I have a list of just a 1000 people. These 1000 people already bought a product from me and saw it had great value, most are making money from the membership. Then I just send an email to educate them in a product I have and how it can help them. But I do not give them the product. Now they are interested in the product and are waiting, literally waiting for my next email. Now this product is good and will help. So I send it out to them telling them to check it out. Lets say only 150 people buy the product. That's 150 x $67.45. Which equals to $10,117.05 in one email to only a 1000 people with only one list.

Times that by 700 people.
Times that with 7 lists in sub niches but is in the same main niche(how to make money online) from my membership.

Now I hope you understand the power of building a list. Building a relationship with your list. AND AND AND why you should be truthful, helpful, being a genuine person. Not looking for the money, but looking to help people in their struggles. Making true friends and actually seeing them face to face. Even if they live 1200 miles away. You can fly to see them. If you did your job good enough, they will have enough money to fly and see you.

A marketer that has a headline "Make $3000 In a Week" is in it for the money. They are putting the thought in your head that you too will make $3000 in a week. That is not a guarantee. They are making the impression that, they are "promising" you can make that money with out truly making the promise. It is just a bad marketing tactic, in which they wounder why they are called a scam and their refund rate is so high.

Let me go more into detail on this subject so I don't offend any genuine marketers that use this tactic, but could improve it. Some products with headlines like this could be a good product and actually help people. Most of these marketers are new and use these headlines because it works. Just because it works doesn't mean you should use it. Your product may be helpful and fabulous. It does not mean you should give the impression of a promise you can not keep. Even if you make every person that buys your product $1000, you are still considered a liar as they didn't make that $3000.

Be creative to grab peoples attention. Sometimes simple is better as it shows trust in your products.

I hope everyone understands my point. It is not only about the money. Money will come last. You being a genuine person comes first. That is the main mindset you need to be in to become a successful marketer.

    That is a great plan of providing quality and building strong relationships with your list. You've covered everything to keep that list happy and your copy/marketing skills will bring in the figures you projected, if not more. In my opinion you are already there with that excellent plan. I've seen people build lists and just don't have a plan. So well done buddy and good luck!

      I too see a few people build lists and just promote to them. Never building relationships. Never taking it to the next step. Never stepping back and seeing the big picture on what they can accomplish.

      I have a couple of list that provide some income with just relationship building. Giving them what they want and helping them with their problems. (In 2 different niches).

      There is a quote I would like to add to this thread. "If you don't make a plan, then you will plan to fail, If you plan for success then you will find success." Or something like that.

      The reason for me telling people about my plan is to show them, there is not a secret in Internet Marketing. I like the WF and don't like seeing people go through the same struggles I went through. I got so frustrated trying to figure it out. Made me depressed, literally brought tears to my eyes trying my hardest to make just some money to support my family.

      Now it is time to give back on what I have learned. And what I have learned is to help, but not to only help. To make a plane on how I'm going to help and make it the biggest plan I can. Then understand that it doesn't stop their. I will keep growing my business until the day I die and pass it to my children. (My life goal).

    it's importnat to focus on helping people. this is the thing most people miss. One of my lists is pulling in $12 per subscriber which is much better than the common $1 per subscriber rule.

    It's important to treat people right, and remember the golden rule, treat people like you want to be treated.Live by that and you'll get a lot of gold from very happy people.

      Thanks for the awesome post Justin, this is great stuff for beginners. You're absolutely right to highlight the importance of building relationships. The well-worn saying "the money is in the list" is all well and good but I believe it's more accurate to say that " the money is in the RESPONSIVE" list and the way to get people to be responsive is to be genuine and get people to know, like and trust you. I certainly intend to be putting this stuff into practice

    It is funny how you said "the golden rule."

    This is copied and pasted from my site, the very last thing I say in my "How To Make Money Online" section.

    The One Golden Rule

    “Fall in love with your list”. What I mean by that is you NEED to take care of your list, these people are your consumers. This is where you make consumers into customers. Put yourself on your list and act like it is from someone else. You wouldn't want others to sell your personal information and I assure you your consumers don’t either. You want to gain trust. It is imperative to see the value in your email list! Your list is a list of real people with real lives. Treat them like people and care for them. The results will be to your benefit, if you do.

      In my membership, I show you step by step in how to make money online from another site that I have in the alternative energy niche.

      Just so members can see that, you can make money online in any niche.

      This isn't just what I think on how you should make money online. It is showing you step by step in how I am making money online in a different niche.

      The products I promote in the membership are products you will need for any niche. I show how I use these products with my other site/niche.

      Your comment is exactly way I did it this way. I encourage members to find a niche they truly enjoy. A niche they have passion for to make it easier on them.

    Instead of this, why not track your members downloads so you know what they are downloading and how frequently they visit the category pages? Then set up an email auto series tailored to the segmented group? Just a thought .

      I have an automated educated email series for each gift they sign up for.

    This is a really fundamental thing to understand...

    Here is an example to see the power of relationship building with your list:
    Say you are on 20 lists and on average you receive 20 emails daily from 20 different marketers and you read a few of them every day.
    Now you decide that your box is getting too crowded and do a mass unsubscribe event. And here is a question: which marketers will you keep and which ones will you unsubscribe from?

    If you actually try it, I can bet that out of 20 marketers you will only know like 1-3 and decide that you value their advice... at the same time the rest 17 marketers you will unsubscribe from.

    Why? Maybe some of them has better content... but they failed to create a relashionshit with you. If a marketer fails to do that - you will not remember him/her and end up focusing on other people who you trust.

    So... think about which you would rather be in the eyes of your subscriber.

    It sounds to me like you have discovered that the better you are to people, the better they will be to you. I have bought the my cars from the same dealership for the last 20 years. It's not because I have any particular fondness for the car brand, but because I have a good relationship with the people that sell it to me and service it. They make me feel like a friend. IM is no different in my opinion and I've always operated that way towards the people on my list.

    Golden rule. Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. I believe that if we keep that in mind, we as internet marketers will make the internet a much better place than when we found it. We are truthfully marketing ourselves, no so much the product or service. These are some excellent points and we all at one point were just starting and pretty much scared to death of what we needed to do to have that "success". From the words of Zig Ziglar, simply if we help others get what they want, we will ultimately get what is that we want.
