What's the Best Traffic Source for Testing Sales Pages?

Howdy Marketing Fans,

Quick question (with a bit of background) for anyone who has successfully split-tested a new product:

I'm about a month away from launching a new product in a niche in which I've been an affiliate for a couple of years.

I want to split test the price of the offer. I've created the test but my question is, what's the best way to drive traffic to the offer? PPC on Facebook or Google? Solo Ads?

I'm building an Early Bird list for the product but I don't want to mail the test to them because someone could end up buying it at a higher price which may not be the 'final' price it sells for. Thoughts?

If you've had success (in any niche) with split testing and selling, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Many thanks.

    I would try a solo ad James

    a 500 click solo ad will cost around $150 - $250

    if you're squeeze converts at around 50% that's at least 250 people seeing your sales page as long
    as you use single opt in

    if your page converts fairly well you can still make some good money back too

      I would NOT recommend solo ads for a split test, that is a terrible idea for a few reasons.

      1. You cannot duplicate the quality/volume etc from a blast. Nor will you get enough information from this. Usually you need quite a lot of data, but not always.

      2. I recommend any targeted PPC. Adwords, BingAds, Facebook etc But really you can use anything if you put a little work into it. So you could use solo ads but you must use what I say in #4 and you probably will need to do more than one.

      3. Make sure you run your numbers through this tool: A/B Split test significance calculator - Visual Website Optimizer

      *If the data isn't statistically significant, its useless.

      4. You want a link that sends every other visitor to the other version. If you send traffic to one page one day and then traffic to the other page the next, you aren't taking into account different days, or server page load speeds and many other small details that could make a big difference.

        Most helpful, thanks Brent. I'm already using Visual Website Optimizer to run the split test, but thanks for the tip.

        Not sure I quite understand what you mean when you say 'You cannot duplicate the quality/volume etc from a blast.' Can you shed a little more light on this please?

        Also, wouldn't PPC be cold traffic and therefore lead to a skewed result?

          Actually solo ads are perfect for testing! If your products convert on solo ads, you are sure you have a winner since solo ads normally don't convert at all. So am not sure was is meant above by this sort of testing being a bad idea...

            You might want to think about a really inexpensive PPC search engine like 7search. But it depends on your niche and what you are trying to push. The clicks can't still get expensive if you're not careful (set an appropriate daily budget...) but will definitely tell you if your product is converting or not. The thing with 7search is it does require some optimization.
