I have been studding Internet Marketing for almost 7 months now, have my own website, as which I would like to do some Affiliate marketing with.

I have not done to well here, and would like to know how long did it take you to make your first dollar, and what was it that made the difference? You know, that Ooh yes moment that you knew you were on your way to making money in Internet marketing.

Thanks, Ken

First commission came online within my first 7 days.
usually in affiliate marketing your results are going to be based on,
does the offer make sense for the people I'm putting it in front of...
if it does, how can I get more targeted people to see it, and
then how can I lower the barrier for risk for people to purchase
    the product or service.

    Focus on that.

    And get a coach.

If things aren't working for you...then do something different.
You can't see the picture if you're standing in the frame.

    About 2 years.

Started with Article Marketing and made nothing.

Did the autoblogging thing next and got my first dollar until the google zoo killed it off and also banned my adsense account.

Moved onto List Building after that and have made my living off it ever since.

A better question might be... when did you make your LAST dollar?

I don’t remember exactly how long it took because the beginning happened a long time ago, but I didn't make my first dollar immediately. And only because I sold my first ebook a few times (on eBay in the beginning) and made money this way, this didn't mean that I solved my problems. Selling something once in a while is not having a business.

When I created my websites, nothing was easy either. It’s hard to make sales. There are many complications in the way, especially because of the fierce competition we face online.

You should study and learn how to market your business and find the right audience. Don’t expect to be successful without learning and knowing how to deal with all the problems you have to face until you’ll manage to drive traffic to your websites, and transform your visitors into customers.

Everything takes time and a lot of work.

The impression that internet marketing is simple is a marketing lie to make newbies believe that they will be able to make money online by learning a few things and following a certain method.

If the gurus would tell you the truth, they would begin telling you that you won't make money without studying every detail of the marketing process online, and without being able to beat your competitors.

However, they never mention how hard it is to beat the competition and how hard it is to drive traffic to your websites.

Almost immediately (within a week or two, from memory.) Making money wasn't the hard part.. deciding how I wanted to spend my time, day in, day out, was. Once anything starts to 'work' for you it begins to take over your life, imo. For instance, if you are blogging, are you ok with spending all your time responding to comments, emails, researching and writing articles, updating security, looking for blog pictures, as well as products to promote, etc, etc..

If the answer is yes, then great, you are on the right track. If not, then you better work out what it is that you want.

The next question I would ask is: 'If I was successful in what I am doing, will it provide the kind of INCOME that I want/need'? By this, I mean perhaps you are just creating yourself another JOB (for pennies), instead of a valuable business/asset.

To answer your question though, the thing that made the difference for me (between earning, and not earning), is getting involved in a COMMUNITY. So, if you are blogging, you need to take an interest in other [successful] blogs/bloggers, leave comments, etc, and get to know people. Be genuine, don't try to hard sell (or sell at all), and discover their/your customers needs, wants, frustrations, etc, while building a reputation.

The money then becomes almost an afterthought (I said 'almost' ) and it is usually a 'surprise' to login and see that you have made some $$$.

Of course, it goes without saying that you need to be consistent, focused, have quality articles, etc, for your site, and must become knowledgeable in your subject matter (if you aren't already.)

Oh, lol.. seems obvious, but you do actually have to have something to sell (and a means to do it!) :p So, set up a sales page, affiliate account, paypal account, squeeze page, whatever, so that when people do find you, they have something to buy!

PS - PLANNING is key!! Juggling everything can get complicated/overwhelming, so plan on paper first, then put it into freemind and work on it some more. Plan everything down to the last detail, until you end up with a simple to-do list. Then you always know where you are at, and what you need to focus on next.

Sorry for the long-winded explanation but hope it helps!

It took me one year from the time I first became interested in IM to the time I received my first paycheck. However, after two months in IM, I knew that it was going to take another ten months to get that first check. Everything went according to plan. Phase 2 went faster -- two months from conception to first paycheck. Phase three is in the works.

I made my first sale in 3 days, and made close to $3,000 my very first month.

If someone said to do something once I did it 10 times, it someone said to do something for an hour a day, I did it all day.

When I first got started I was working day and night literally 15-16 hour days. I don't have to do that anymore, but I still sometimes do, just becasue i truly love hat I do.

It took me a few weeks. I set up a free blog reviewing an ebook on clickbank, got traffic by submitting a few articles at ezine, then bam, got my first few sales. I probably could've done it in a few days, but I got super distracted and worked really slow, still do lol.

That's all it really took to get me excited, seeing that first sale. Once that money actually ends up in your bank account, then it becomes real, and you absolutely KNOW that this internet marketing stuff works; you no longer have think "hmm, will this really work, or is just a bunch of crap?". If you make money once, you can do it again. Then again, and again, and again.

It took me a couple of weeks! I started with Squidoo back in 2007 or 8, I can't quite remember! I took this course about Squidoo by PotPieGirl and didn't really understand much of it at first!

I had just discovered that " affiliate marketing" existed lol! At set up a couple of lenses about "how to learn French"...and forgot about them! I was busy with the day job at the time! One week end, I do remember, it was a Sunday, I found my Clickbank password by chance, totally forgot about this too! The whole thing seemed far too complicated at first and then I logged in and found 2 sales! And at the time, the sales were something like $50 each! I was stunned, honestly, it wasn't like I had won the lottery but it was nice to see that you could actually earn some extra money! I carried on and bought a few other courses! Did Article Marketing for a while! I am currently ghostwriting and have a blog running too! Also working on a couple of other projects but yeah those 2 sales made my week end and definitely HOOKED ME to the thing!

It took me 2 weeks. I was in college selling a ridiculous ebook (wont name the title), but i had a list of 65 subscribers, and sent them a 50% off offer for my ebook. I woke up the next morning with 2 sales in the inbox. Didn't go to class that day... spent the whole day eating panini's at the cafeteria.

It took acouple of days, for the 1st $$ , then a while to make some serious money , what i decided to do was high ticket sales, if you are selling $50 products and getting 50% commision , you need make a lot of sales, if you sell $2000 product and get 50% its much easier,
