Hello...Once again, I am new to all this. If I wanted to create an authority website. How does one make money from that? Please explain. I have a domain in the arena of mental health. It is a one word domain followed by ".me" and the one word is the name of the illness. Would it be advisable to create an authority website on a domain such as that? Or does it have to be a ".com?"

Thank you. And please tell me how you guys and gals make money at this sort of thing.

I'd assume you have experience in the "mental health" arena, yes? If not, then quite simply you shouldn't attempt to build an authority site. If you have experience, then you can most definitely create an authority site by creating quality content on a consistent basis and sharing it everywhere your audience is.

As for the .com. If your intention is to rank this website, you should seriously consider searching for a .com extention. It not only ranks higher, it also looks more professional. I'm not entirely up to speed on the whole SEO nonsense anymore though. Just remember, an authority site is one where the subject matter is fully covered in all areas and the content is worth sharing.

    Hello

You can setup an authority site for free and basically an authority site is something like Squidoo and Hubpages which in the eyes of Google both provide high quality content which Google loves.

Providing on the content you create, the low competition and good traffic keywords you use, you can sometimes easily rank at the top of google with Squidoo and Hubpages using very little other promotion methods.

Other Authority sites can also include Ezinearticles and Streetarticles where you can rank high for low competition keywords when creating articles.

Three more examples can include this forum, Betternetworker forum and Yahoo Answers where specific forum threads can rank high in Google, depending on the quality of the topics and keywords.

However if you choose, you can create your own wordpress blog using a .com domain, gradually add content to it, build backlinks to it from your signatures in forums, articles on article directories as I mentioned above and also through sharing on the social networks as well as on social bookmarking sites like Digg, Stumbleupon and Reddit.

Hope this has helped a little, Neil

Please excuse such a contradictory tone, but in the interests of clarity, this is completely wrong, Neil. Article directories are - thankfully! - about as far from being an "authority site" as it's possible to get, these days!

"Ranking high" is (fortunately) not part of the purpose or function of an article submitted to a directory. Article marketers want the copy of the article originally published on our own sites to be the one that ranks well, not the article directory copy. All clarified in this thread: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post5068872

For all the reasons explained in this post nobody should want their potential customer traffic to be arriving at their site from an article directory. That isn't how article directories work, at all.

Articles marketing isn't an SEO-based method, Neil. It's a traffic generation method in its own right, which transcends SEO. It isn't about "ranking".

Agreed, however they still work well in search engines.

On the contrary, they now work particularly badly in search engines, thanks partly to the Panda Updates of 2011, which have done article marketers a huge favor, because nobody who understands how article directories work wants those copies to rank at all, Akif.

The people who want their articles in Ezine Articles to "rank well in search engines" are all the same people starting off the threads here with titles like "Is Article Marketing Dead?" And for them, it certainly is, because they're trying to use an article directory for a purpose it can't fulfil (and was never intended to fulfil anyway!).

first of all I agreed on half portion of your statements.

Articles are still important for search engines.
But a very important factor is, Where do you keep them?
If you keep them in sites like article etc etc dot com then you wont be having any success.
We have better options than all these etc etc article marketing sites

As far as monetization goes with this type of site once you are getting traffic you would most likely be selling advertising, and generating revenue from adsense.

It is unlikely that you would be selling affiliate products or building a list in mental health.

I guess there could be some other factors that I am not aware of as I am not directly experienced in this type of "niche".

Reference from other website(backlinks)(it can be very effective if you can manage to get links from authority site) , traffic, helpful contents are important to create an authority site. If you start your site and can manage to get traffic than your site will start to become an authority site.

An ‘Authority site‘ is a site that seems to get an extra ranking boost from the search engines. Somehow, in their analysis of the site and its backlinks profile, the search engine algorithm recognizes a site as being an ‘Authority’. Getting backlinks from sites that are seen by the search engines as an authority are close to being the sorts of links that probably past the most link juice, so they are much sought after.

The other way would be to look at the backlink profile. What proportion of backlinks come from self promotional means of link building (such as directory submission, social bookmarking, article distribution, blog commenting or forum posting)?. Would you consider an authority site to have a smaller proportion of their backlinks from these methods of link building relative to those that are willingly given as the site is worthy of linking to (ie its an ‘authority’).

Are you an authority/expert on this subject? If not, do you intend to actually help people by finding people that are? Or are you in it just for the money. If its the later, pack up your bat and ball right now and go home.
