For Ad Copy Do I use Black Txt or off greyish-black???

INTERNET MARKETING

I'm not sure what this text is showing up as. Probably totally black.

But it seems like many sites are using all kinds of word press packs and css styles that make the text look much more grey like like if you use color code: (#333333)

I'm just really old school. I don't know how else to design. So is it easier to read a slightly lighter version of the black, when using a white background.

(#333333) charcoal gray - kinda like you can't tell it's not flat black color. For example I've noticed that even Youtube uses an off black (#333333) for there video descriptions, leaving the video headline as regular #000000 black.

I'm working on a sales letter. I was going to use: Arial and (#333333) and #000000 for bigger headlines.

Anyway what are you're thoughts. All this is written in regular black. So I can't easily show you but you know what I mean. ??? :rolleyes:

The simplistic answer: Conrast increases readability. Gray on white has less contrast than black on white. Dark red on white has high contrast too. Dark red on gray has less contrast.

You want your message to stand out.

  Lots of things become fashionable among large groups of people who don't test properly for themselves but mistakenly rely instead on an assumed group attribution of causation.
  
  People typically look and say things like "Everyone's doing this so it 'must' be working", and some even announce that, as if it were factual. That's exactly how all those urban myths of internet marketing become self-perpetuating.
  
  I don't know whether black/gray print is one of them, but this forum's full of threads extolling the virtues of all sorts of marketing behavior to which the majority of responses say things like "People do this because it works", without that actually being true at all. Pretty often the few people who properly test for themselves all these things that are in very widespread usage "because they 'must' work" are the ones who abandon them.
  
  Testing for yourself can provide your only reliable answer.
