Opening a forum related to my website topic. Should I buy a new domain or make a sub-domain?

Currently my site gets about 150+ uniques a day. However it took a HUGE hit (I was getting 500+ a day) directly after I allowed a guest article (no links within the article...just a fan of the site).

It's a niche tech site. I would like to open a forum too. I'm wondering if I should buy a new domain and cross advertise my sites between the two or just start the forum on a sub-domain of the current site...

my main goal is to gain readership...i'm not too concerned about money at this point, i just want to build a good base.

opinions?

If the forum will be related to the subject matter of the
main site then I'd make it a subdirectory or subdomain,
    whichever you want.

On the other hand if it's not going to be particularly related
to the main sites subject matter then it makes sense to
put it on it's own domain.

Use a subdomain, that's simple logic.

If your forum have same niche, i suggest subdomain.. because i think your reader feel more comfortable to join your forum because it have same domain...

Being an asset manager, I would suggest a separate domain for your forum if you can afford it.

If any case you decided you want to cash out, you can sell them separately like a bundle. Because buying a sub domain forum doesn't seem like a bundle.

Or if you like to keep the forum but do not want to maintain the blog anymore, you can sell the blog.

Or if the forum is growing better, you can create a separate blog on your forum to grow your assets.

Ever notice that people who spend money on WSO, memberships and courses, are always complaining about being broke and not making any money ?

They should have bought ASSETS instead.
