Buying my first 'money making' website...

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum but I've got a good understanding of IM, though only basic knowledge of things such as the ins-and-outs of affiliate schemes and making money from websites with AdSense, etc.

I'm considering buying a website to run in my spare time alongside my full time copywriting business.

I guess my question is, how do you know where to start?

I've seen a listing on Flippa that I'm interested in, it's a brand new site with the keywords 'email marketing guide' in the domain name, which gets around 1,000 global monthly searches. I know quite a bit about email marketing and list building, so I think I could come up with some great content ideas. As I said, I don't know a lot about the money making side of things, though I'm guessing Aweber affiliate would be an obvious choice.

I think I'm really just looking for an agreement that I might be on the right lines!

Any comments greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ruth

Regarding websites on Flippa there is one important thing you should know.
There are many websites on sale right now ( I saw many of them ) which are surprinsigly ranking very because are having rented links. If you want to go and buy from Flippa, make sure there are no robots involved, go for a trustable sellers, check their backlinks carefully and never look on bargains.

In 98% of the cases bargains are scam.

1,000 global monthly searches is a very small amount. I would rather choose my own domain and start my own site than buy something like that.

The way you worded this worries me a little.

When you're buying a brand new site, you're paying for the design, setup,
    maybe some research or content.

I see anyone using "money making potential" as their main selling point-- I
    run the other way.

You could also consider building a site yourself-- good thing to know how to do.

On a related note, exact match domains no longer have any SEO value after
    the last Goolge update.

    Good luck,
    Jeremy

    Hi Ruth,

Just to make a little correction. I checked your keyword in Google Keyword Tool and it gets 170 global monthly searches. This is the amount of people searching for the exact keyword monthly. When you type the keyword, make sure to uncheck "broad" and check "[exact]" on the left hand side. It is just under "Match Types"

    Best regards,

I am ALWAYS skeptical of websites that claim to be making money already. Make sure you do THOROUGH research. Plenty of flippa sites that are "making money" , are not
