Does the "Like" Button Matter (on Amazon)?

I know the kindle reviews are vital for getting your book ranking, but does the amount of "likes" matter at all?

I have read in a couple of products that the Amazon Like button is used in its internal rankings.

Does that serve to move your book up in the rankings for that particular genre?

When you "Like" a review, that review moves up -- assuming there are other reviews present. This is helpful for burying potentially poor reviews and/or for bringing the best reviews to the top. Whether these "Likes" also help in rankings is still anyone's guess.

However, the "Like" button you see next to the book's title (toward the top of the page) does not directly rank your book. When you "Like" that product, Amazon simply recommends similar items to you. The benefit here (as far as profiting) is that Amazon may show YOUR book to other customers who "Liked" similar products, much in the same way that Amazon shows YOU other people's products when you hit the button.

If it did nothing to your rankings or popularity, then why would Amazon even include it? Yes, I think having more Likes definitely helps your book. They wouldn't "waste" putting it on there if it wasn't for a purpose.

As stated in my previous post, the key phrase here is directly rank. It's not a direct form of ranking your books, as they're primarily used as a recommendation engine both for you and other buyers. Over time, items which have been "Liked" by others will give your product some spotlight, and only then -- in turn -- your book may rank because other users who discovered your item may buy it. As such, it is not a direct way of ranking.

That's according to the link below, at least. At the end of the day, though, Amazon may still do things which are not disclosed -- such as secretly ranking your book based on "Likes" -- even if they don't state it publicly. So there's no harm in getting "Likes."

All that matters on Amazon is sales. If the like button pushes your ad toward the top, then yes it does matter. Amazon has an option to sort products by highest rated, and I'm sure a ton of people use that option, so yea get them likes up

YES! I've had books with no sales and no reviews suddenly get a couple "Likes" and nearly instantly move up the list and start to receive sales. So yes, the Like button is definitely an internal ranking factor at Amazon.com
