This is no different from other products or services...

Marketing and branding play a part.

Some customer will look at your previous work, some will consider if the pricing is right, some will pay super high price too..you will need to do abit of homework of who you wish to sell your services to

    Good luck

Although their are multiple ways of going about this (you can find them in this forum if you search), you can pick up the phone and start calling local businesses who are currently advertising elsewhere. Telling them why SEO (and whatever else you're offering) is worlds better then where they're currently advertising (ie - phone book).

    Owning an iPad helps.
    1. Walk into business
    2. Ask to speak with owner / marketing manager
    3. Depending on the product they sell, ask them to go ahead and type it into Google on your iPad
    4. Then ask them are they seeing their competitors products, or theirs.
    5. If they are not seeing theirs, thats a problem. Sell the solution. You've made it crystal by that point.
    6. Thank me later....
    7. Oh, and if they are in plumbing, HVAC, legal, medical, carpentry, auto repair, etc. set them up with a landing page connected to UberTransfers, and make a residual each time a lead simply fills in a form

You NEVER guarantee first page results in SEO it's a recipe for disappointment and disaster. It's out with your control and if you don't manage to do it your customer isn't going to be happy. Set their expectations before you sign a contract and be honest with them about what you can do.

Ask them to purchase a sample link building package (such as 20 backlinks). That way they can see the quality of your work up front.

Exactly. And show case studies where you were successful with a description of what you did. I don't buy any sort of SEO without seeing an example, and "link building" is very low on my list.

Get three pages ranked to #1 for the industry in which you wish to SEO. Even a local site will do the job.

Start cold calling or acquiring leads in your industry and show them the proof. Tell them to go to Google and type in "Dermatologist in Boulder CO" and when they see your site, it's not that hard of a sell.

I have a few local clients and I got them by showing them how much local traffic my sites received. They wanted it, we negotiated and now they get the traffic and pay me for every new customer.

I'm just going to throw this out there since no one else mentioned it.

    Offer a high quality product!

If you're really good at SEO it's going to be pretty easy to sell. However, if you're not very good at it don't expect people to buy it from you. What is your background in SEO? How long have you been doing it before? Do you have satisfied customers? Are you an expert or did you just read one book about it?

Any time you provide a customer with a service and the value outweighs the costs it's easy to sell!

    Here are some suggestions:

    1) Get your own site

    2) Show successes of your own seo successes

    3) Show case studies from past clients

    4) Advertise

    5) Join niche forums

    6) Show testimonials

    7) Write a viral seo ebook

    8) Have a system in place to close potential seo clients

By offering value that will help benefit their business model. Stand out from the crowd and make the customers want to give you their money.

There are many buyers out there and many SEO offerers. but for them to buy from you, you have to let the buyers know how good is your SEO. maybe make a site listing down what you can offer and what you have done for others in the past
