Free Simple HTML Editor Recommendation

16 replies
Hi All,

I'm looking for a simple, free and easy to use HTML editor. I run Win 7. I would just be using it to edit a daily HTML email....nothing fancy.

I was using an old version of Dreamweaver, but it throws errors that I don't have enough memory (I have 8 Gigs!)...so I don't know what that's about.

Thanks in advance.

Ken

  • Kenneth,

    You could just use notepad++ if all you are doing is editing HTML. Also, Microsoft Visual web developer is a decent one (although more advanced than just a text editor).

    Notepad++ Home

    Hope that helps,

    Web Dwarf is free and really simple to use. I use that and WYSIWYG Website Builder (paid, but a fully functional trial).

    Kompozer gets my vote. If you're good at Dreamweaver, then Kompozer will be a breeze.

    If you do it daily, you might also consider hiring a programmer to setup an easy process for you that is easily repeatable. They could probably setup up something that uses TinyMCE for example. This is what I did.

    It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

      If you repeat the same format every day, this would be the way to go. Even simpler than using something like TinyMCE would be to set up a form on a web page, then use a form handler to insert that content into a template.

      Another option is using Open Office Writer. Write and format your email, then save as a web page. Copy/paste the code into your email program. Again, you could set up a template and just fill in the content.

    For text Notepad ++, is fast, accurate and has some nice features.

    For simple HTML (web) pages little beats Komposer for simplicity imo. :-)

      I second Notepad++

      You can use regular old Notepad that comes with every windows pc...but if you want a bit more oomph, notepad++ has some bells and whistles that come in handy. Plus you can use it for other languages besides HTML (I use it to code PHP too).
