Marketing strategy for launching Cashback website

Hi all Warriors,

First of all, thank you for a great forum! I've been hanging around here in the background for a year or so and now felt that it was time to become a Warrior

Background
I'm about to launch a cashback/reward website where users register and can take part in different affiliate offers and then earn cashback. (They can for example buy stuff from their favorite e-stores and then get X% back in cashback of the value they buy for.)

Problem
The problem I'm facing is that the website will be launched on a local market where the knowledge of this kind of websites is not very widespread. This becomes a problem because I have to transfer the concept through the advertisement and get them to understand how good this is for their wallet.

Marketing
Here are some of the marketing methods that I've considered.

PPC
I have made som research and have concluded that almost no-one is searching for any term related to the concept. It feels like a waste to spend money here and it won't get me any traffic anyway.

SEO
Same problem as described above. Almost no-one is searching for it so even if I were nr.1 on all keywords I wouldn't get any huge amount of traffic.

Affiliate networks - PPL campaign
I think this might be the best option. But on the other side, how happy will the advertisers be if I'm paying others to get people using a service that will eat their margins?

Competitions on Facebook pages
This might give me some leads but at the same time wouldn't be for long term.

Blogvertising
Buying blog post on larger blogs, done correctly, could be a good thing but it could also be a flop. Worth a try?

Problem question
How would YOU market such a sites to target the right audience and deliver the message?

Hope you get any idea of what I'm after and I would be very happy for any input or discussion regarding the problem.

Thanks!

      Hi Kendrickk,

Thank you for you advice regarding blogging. I have actually already started a blog on the website writing about related stuff. Sorry I didn't mention that.

Well, I do have some experience with what you're after and without revealing it all, I just have to say that your assumptions are not all correct.

Your margins are going to be very low, so not sure you can afford a lot of spending on traffic.
If there is no search for the terms you're after then there is no market, right? And if you think there is a need, then you are the one that is going to create the market - again that's a huge expense.

Now, I'm not saying these are not possible , some people manage to emphasize needs and create markets, but I think you should fight and research the searches some more and find the needs in there - this will save you a lot of time, money and effort. Perhaps even consider going from local to global.

    Best of luck

You have some really good points here. You put the finger on the problem, there is no market - I have to create it. At least it's a very small and unknown market.

I think there is a great demand for this but the problem is to get out with the message.

Thank you for your thoughts! It's really appreciated!

Seo gets the best conversions but in case you have to find a way to draw the visitors attentions. Besides it shouldn't be hard especially if your offering them a reward back you just have to get that message out there you should be find. Sometimes you have to do niche matching sites related to but not exactly the same but similar.

      Hi Alvin,

Thanks for your suggestions. The niche matching sites sounds like a good idea!

  • Hey, I tried this back 2-3 years ago and found it super competitive even back then. Admittedly I quit it, but I used the platform provided by a young guy called Matt lovett, who runs a successful business called Wow Media, and he has a popular cashback website. Perhaps if you do some research on him you can find out some details as to what he did back in the day.

I can't remember myself, but he has expanded beyond that since then with his own hosting etc.. His websites are mostly ran by whitelabel services.

You may want to include a part on your website for free money (i.e. incentivized offers, where you split the commission). I know some users were happily using these sites because they were making £30-50 extra per month.

WOW Media is the guys site. Here's a video about him BBC NEWS | UK | England | Young business tycoon beats odds

As mentioned, the problem is not the competition in my case. I already have platform and everything. Anyway, thanks for your input!
