Which hosting company is cheaper?

I am currently using hostgator but their domains seem to be no less than $15 where as in other places the domains go as low as 3 for .info and other tlds. I love hostgator especially the support and that is why I stayed with them for about 4+ yrs now but if the domain is expensive then it will be hard to register domains in bulk. What do you think guys?

You are talking about domain registration, which has nothing to do with 'which hosting company is cheaper.' One of the more common pieces of advice about domain registration and hosting is to do each of them with different companies.

There have been several hosting companies that failed. Sometimes the site wasn't even online and the contact info didn't go anywhere. A person could not even access the domain name to point it to another host. Sometimes it would take weeks to get the domain back into action.

With a separate registrar for the domain, if a host fails you can simply point the domain to a new host.

Namecheap is the registrar I use, and it is the one most often recommended in this forum. I've hardly heard anything negative about them since I came online. They are also much cheaper for domain registration than HG. You get your first year of privacy protection free. If you don't need it for a new domain you can transfer it to another one.

Okay I also have two domains with Namecheap and they are doing great. But i found domain registration with HG more though I like their service. And to add another domain with namecheap I have to add another package. Well I will see what I can do.

If I'm understanding you correctly you are wondering if you have to buy another web hosting package with Hostgator to host two domains that you have registered with Namecheap. If you have their Baby or Business plan then you have the ability to host multiple domains on your one account. If you have their Hatchling plan then you can't host more than one domain on your hosting account. I hope this answers your question.

You can buy domain names cheap from GoDaddy or Namecheap and point DNS to your HostGator server.

It is not necessary to register domain names from HostGator to use their hosting.

Never buy domains from where you host at, and never buy domains from HostGator because they cost so much. Their web hosting is the best of the best, so if you want to stay with them, then I would suggest you buy domains from Godaddy and point them to HostGator for web hosting.

You don't think Hostica's $1.00 per month might be lower than that, then?

The OP was actually asking which "hosting company" is cheaper for registering domain-names, not for hosting. Yes, he should really have said "which registrar".

Hosting is such a no brainer, only comes to $10 or less a month. However, of all of the "top" hosts that I know of, Hostgator doesn't ask for a full year up front, so it is one of the "cheapest."

I remember once I had some no-name host and I was having trouble with my Joomla installation; the tech asks me "what's Joomla?" I groaned and rolled my eyes, vowing never to go for cheap on hosting.

Hosting and registering domains are two different things.

I believe if you're using anything larger than the "Baby" plan on HostGator, they will permit multiple domains.

All you need to do, is just purchase domains from somewhere cheaper like GoDaddy or Namecheap and then just set the DNS to your HostGator's.

The dedicated server is about 50,00 EURO/month which is a good price. It is a really fast and reliable machine (24gb ram, 8 core cpu, 1tb hdd).

WOW, 50 euro IS a good price! In the US, the average for a low middle tier dedicated server is like $99 which is about 72 euros! And you are describing what **I** would consider a low upper tier one. Of course, bandwidth is a concern, and you didn't mention THAT. Can you name the company?

    awledd,

You are not describing domains, but domain NAMES. The popular ones(Com,Net) COST like $6, last I knew. If they charge less, it usually costs you SOMETHING.

Anyhow, I don't think everyone here is talking about the same thing. And, I think some people are confused about what the terms hosting, registrars, domains, etc pertain to.

I tried a $5.00, one-year unlimited with Hostdeal through Fiverr and used a 'disposable' domain name. I really did not excpect anything spectacular and when I received an email about two months later saying they were having fiancial problems I was not the least surprised.

However, they then sent me a series of emails letting me know that they had eventually resolved their problems and their service was back up and running (albeit 'under new management').

The bottom line is that I have had no problems with the hosting at all as it never actually went off line, but fingers are firmly crossed.

As I said, the domain I used is disposable and not important to me, so it is not a problem but thought I would mention this in case there is anyone looking for something really cheap as a temporary measure.

I always use Namecheap to purchase domains. They are the best in my opinion. I NEVER use GoDaddy and never will, even if they give domains for free. Why? Because they have little or no scrupples about what is hosted with them and some of the most disgusting sites imaginable are hosted by them. I prefer to give my money to ethical hosting companies such as Hostanother (bought through a WSO).

I hope the above helps in some small way.

Based on the experiences of other marketers I know, I would never use the company as a domain registrar and hosting company. In addition, if the company providing one of those services (domain registration or hosting) ever takes a turn for the worse, I can replace them and not have to move my entire business elsewhere.

For domain registration, I use Aplus.net or NameCheap.

For domain hosting, I learned my lesson years ago with cheap or unreliable hosting companies. Nothing will kill your online income faster than your websites being offline because your hosting company isn't doing their job.

Your hosting company's bill is a tiny investment to have for having your own business.

If you think I'm wrong, then ask someone who started online in the 1990's or early 2000's... my first website cost me $75/year for the domain registration and $100/month for hosting that single site.

If you think I'm wrong, then ask anyone you know who owns an offline business how much they pay each month in office rent... I used to pay over $1700/month for my old brick and mortar company's office space.

I used Hosting Zoom for years but there is no way in the world I'd recommend them anymore. They upgraded my account twice on memory/bandwidth last year and raised the price they were charging me each time without asking me. I saw their bill go from $25/month to $30/month... to $35/month within 6 months. In addition, my email would go down 2-3 times/month... an email account that typically get about 100 emails per day... hardly a server-breaking amount of email IMHO.

These days... I use hostgator as my backup hosting company... my primary hosting company is LiquidWeb. They're not the cheapest but they're the best. 100% uptime guaranteed... the longest I've ever had to wait for a tech support was 15 minutes.

I sleep like a baby at night because I know my sites are always going to be up and running. I can not say enough great things about LiquidWeb's hosting... I suggest HostGator as a plan B hosting company.

      Hope that helps,

      Mike

P.S. Forgot to mention that I got an email from LiquidWeb last week. They've upgraded the bandwidth for all of their servers to free incoming bandwidth and 5TB outgoing bandwidth each month. The upgrade is free of charge for their customers. Yeah, that makes companies like HostingZoom look even worse.

Keep clear of Hostanother. I have been offline for 6/7 days and their technical support was terrible. They tried but failed on every attempt to get me back on line until through my own suggestion they found my IP address was blocked because of a 'email POP error'.

In fairness, they tried for 6 days to get it right but they obviously had no idea what they were doing.

The irony is that when they did get me back on line, it only lasted less than 24 hours and the same problem recurred.

It seems if you are looking for cheap hosting, that is what you will get - cheap hosting only and no real technical support.

I personally love hostgator, especially the unlimited domains for approx $130 per year.. Support might not be all that great but, at least you do get a response from them..

Regarding domain names, I normally go and look on namecheap.com and then go to google and search for namecheap discount coupon +month name +year number... It works out at about $0.88 per domain discount...
