All of this child theme stuff has really thrown a wrench in my progress.

Hi Warriors

Ok i found my niche, done the keyword research, purchased a domain, uploaded wordpress, ready to build products and put down some serious writing and the I'm hit with, oh and 1 more thing you need a child theme. Not only do you need a child theme Carolyn but it comes with a slight learning curb mixed with a little filezilla and hold wait don't forget these videos you'll be watching for the next 2 days because no one is talking about working with the child theme only how to add the darn thing. Oh and when i finally do find someone willing to explain, how to access the files and finally how to connect, the tediousness of creating folders names passing words??!!?!

I don't have time for this I have a budget, i just want to get my solutions out to my niche before some else stumbles upon these keywords and outsources the whole thing...and that would defeat the purpose of me researching this elusive niche of people for almost a month and finally starting to take action.....sighs

To add more on top of that, this comes only after weeks of preparing.

My questions are,

What part of this should i outsource, because i cant even see how to, get my hostgator hosted website in filezilla, I'm sick of this, I just want to get started building my site and this round and round check dns servers for id and passwords to jump over the moon and paint rainbows is getting ridiculous!

Will someone give me an overall view of child themes outside of uploading.

Can I just skip the child theme?
Can I not edit the child theme and just edit the theme it's self?

Which time saving and effective outsourcing is most beneficial when setting up wordpress websites, not design, set up. "from the CPanel and site theme editing portion.

Skip it... I have never once worried about putting up a child theme when doing a niche website. I actually don't see the point in even adding one, it only adds increased functionality to certain things but other then that it is irrelevant to what you want done. Just download a theme and go with what is already in the package, it will be more then sufficient for your needs.

Not to mention you can always add it at a later time if you need the additional functionality of the child theme.

As far as FTPing, it's not rocket science, but in many cases with WordPress all you have to do is use the Appearance link > then Theme > then upload > Browse to where you have it stored on your computer and in a minute or so, VIOLA! Your theme is installed and the same for any plugins, using the plugins link.

If you need additional help PM me and I'll either give you more details or give you links to relevant tutorials. Try not to stress over it, we've all been there.

      Best regards,

      Steve

Since the introduction of child themes, I've never created one.

Not sure if your child theme is like all the ones that I've used but
    I'd guess it is.

You just drop it in your wp-content/themes folder like any other theme
and then activate it. It's that simple... not sure where you're getting
all this 'complicated' stuff from. Am I missing something?

that's exactly the thing the word "just" in online marketing has become over used and the issue is understated to say the least.

but thank you, if you have time please give me a play by play, better yet a video, starting at logging into Cpanel up to wp-content/themes, I'm sure you would get a million hits.

    Dear Discouraged (Carolynn)

I can feel your frustration from here

You really only need a child theme if you are going to customize your standard theme by editing the php files, and you dont want to touch those unless you know exactly what you are doing.

The reason for the child theme is to save all your customized code so that if the theme you are using is updated by the developer you will not lose all of the customizations you did if you edited the themes own files.
Headers and page layouts will be carried over on updates so there is no worry here.

You dont' need Filezilla, you can upload files to your site from cPanel file manager (look for your site in the WWW section select the folder and use the upload file button from the menu, this will open your desktop folder on your PC select the files you want and upload. If they are big Zip them first and then unzip when you have uploaded them and delete the zip folder.

People care about your content not how your website looks, less than perfect websites can do very well, just make sure you have good navigation links so folks can find all your good stuff, use anchor text links in the text to your other pages and put a few title links at the foot of the article on the page.

Give yourself a break to rebuild nervous energy, you won't make much progress feeling discouraged about what you are doing.

Every pothole has a silver lining or whatever, keep on keeping on doing what you're doing.

      Why thank you Tim

Because of what you've said here, i will be careful to copy the site and just keep a duplicate updated version of my site when it's finished and go from there.....for now....and your encouragement is a breath of fresh air.

I personally purchase profit theme and ..voilà not so much to do alot of inbuild features , you can set up any autoresponder , squeeze page , landing page with one click (really!) updates was never a problem , the code is solid , just go into c-panel --fantastico ---wptheme --go --and then upload (from within your wp dashboard ) the folder with the profit theme and you are set !!!
Ther's support and instruction in the member area , but i never need , it's so easy .
Don't spend all your life setting up a wp theme ! i have been there and then i got so frustrated at the beginning that i went back to xsitepro and 90 second website builder ( this one is now fantastic ) but after i got profit theme i got back to wp.
Enjoy your time and get back your energy and passione .
    ALL THE BEST
Frank Moreno ( i'm affiliate of all this theme and site creation soft ....but not here!! I USE THEM ALL MYSELF!
You can see sample of profit theme here : Frank Moreno .net | internet marketing for all , internet marketing for beginners ( did not work toomuch on it , but you can see the autoresponder form and the squeeze page all done in 1 min....)
