Webmasters - What do you feel comfortable charging clients per hour?

Hi,

May sound like a strange question... I don't know. When I was starting out I was charging about $25 an hour because I didn't have a clue what I SHOULD be charging. I started getting a bit more comfortable as time went on...

I did some internet searching to see what others were charging for what i did. Problem was I do like 10x more that what I was seeing listed... But I did see a number of people charging between $125 and $150 an hour.

I did not have the balls to ask for $125 an hour so I chose $75 an hour. I have been at $75 for a couple years now and I am ready to move up to $150 an hour and yes... I certainly do provide the value that would justify it...

Where are you at?

  • It depends on the quality of your work. The better your stuff is, the more referrals you will get.
  • If you don't someone else will. If you are doing 10X the work than you need to grow some "balls" and charge more for your hard work
  • For a webmaster I would never pay more than $25/hr.

For a developer/coder or designer I'd pay more but I prefer payments per jobs not by hour: too much cheating when it comes about the number of hours billed...
  • If someone tells me they charge by the hour, my next questions is, "Well, how many hours will it take to get the job done"
