Examples of good affiliate sites?

Hey Warriors!
I have 2 domains that I would like to use for affiliate marketing. One is brand new, no site yet and the other is existing, but I haven't done anything with it for the past year and just re-upped for a 2 year term. I used Adobe's Dreamweaver to create the first site, but I see Worpress is highly favored by you guys and gals. Would I be better off using WP instead of DW?

Another thing is how to create a good layout. I've clicked on some of the signature links in the forums, but a lot of them are squeeze pages, and I don't want that for these two sites. I know building a list is important, but I'd like to get the two sites up and running first. I read somwhere that the best layout is two columns with the links in the right sidebar. Would you agree? How would I add the affiliate links tastefully? Can you offer a link to a favorite affiliate site so I can get an idea of how a good layout looks? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Look up top ranked review pages on any product. Study how wp is laid out. Gives you all the info you need to know. Learn from them.

The two most successful affiliate sites currently are empower network and dot com secret.
    You can check them out.

Probably you can pick up some tips from there.

All links should fit in seamlessly, where their extending of the visitors experience on your site should come to mind way before anyone could consider them being there for your own benefit. Keep them shortened and/or clickable pictures over text links.

Set up a working prototype of your whole site, including links and graphics using keynote or powerpoint, and only once your happy with how other people explore the prototype should you start building it. (additional info, additional additional info)

WP can be a lot easier in terms of content management, but DW will give you a lot more creative control. Maybe try a mixture of both?

If you're looking for an example of an affiliate site that is making tons of cash you should look at CreditCards.com. They have basically just categorized different credit cards and have affiliate links to each. I have no idea how much they're making, but I guarantee it's A LOT!

On a side note, it's going to be hard to replicate their success unless you have a domain name as good as CreditCards.com!!!

Thanks for all your replies. Have been searching and looking at different sites. I think I'll stick with DW for now and change it to a three column layout with a header and footer. I did read a WF thread recently about static html vs WP for SEO friendliness, but these two sites weren't created to be mega-money sites. I'm going to use them to learn the ropes and take it from there. Thanks again!
