Those are normally specials run by GoDaddy and then they tack on something you're automatically billed for a few months later if you don't cancel it, like their website builder.

Sometimes this will work at GoDaddy:

1 - Find the .com, .net or .co equivalent of your domain name.
2 - Go through the GoDaddy upsell nonsense until you reach your shopping cart.
3 - At that time they will offer you the matching .org and .info domains for a reduced price.
4 - Select the .info domain and add it to the cart.
5 - Remove the original .com, .net or .co domain you selected (unless you really want it)

Used to work great, up until last summer you could pick up .info's for 49 cents that way. But I just tried it and it seems they are now 1.99. Still it's a dollar savings, and your milage may vary so at another date it could be even better.

    Hope that helps

I just purchased a .com from godaddy today for a $1 without any code....I do know the price will increase after the 1st year though, not sure if you meant the same or $1 for all renewals down the line....

One really needs to stay away from 1and1.com if they are even remotely serious about their business. They are one of the crappiest registrar around.
