When I was right out of college I became friends with a young couple, Ron and Jill. They lived in the other half of a duplex I rented. Jill was a school teacher. Ron was a university student majoring in graphic arts. (It's a 5-year course of study at the University of Cincinnati.)

I knew what art was, but I had never heard of graphic arts, so Ron showed me a number of his completed projects.

The funny thing is, today graphic art has a new name: infographics, and because of the Internet there is an enormous need for good art. Back when Ron was studying, the way graphic artists found work was through art studios and advertising agencies that created art for printing press use.

There were no computers back then, other than main-frames at colleges and large businesses. All graphic art was hand drawn, or burnished using ready-type, or printed clip-art. It all had to be glued to a "pasteboard" using hot wax, then photographed.

That is an excellent collection which you have directed us to. I have been using piktochart myself for quite a long time for creating some cool but basic infographics. However, there is one hurdle I came across when using these tools especially piktochart. I cannot plan the infographic based on my ideas and then use the tool to create it. But, I first look into the available themes (templates) and choose a topic that best suits. This limits the creativity. Later I abandoned using the tool and started creating great infographics using illustrator and photoshop. They really make a difference...

I use piktochart on and off. It has its limitations, but if you want to create a basic infographic, it does the job. I've made a handful with it and I've had other websites republish it.

The advantage to piktochart is it's much faster than creating from scratch, but as always when using templates on a web-based platform, it has limitations.

People looking to build authority sites need to beef up their content with infographics. Well-done graphics boost page quality.

Yeah I find infographics often keep visitors engaged longer. I'm sure that's because so many of them are in a rush and this graphic just captures their attention long enough to get them interested in what is actually on my website.

But great resource I'll be sure to have a full read of that as soon as I get a chance!

Don't forget, if you have Microsoft Office you can also easily create info graphics in several of the programs: Excel, Word, PowerPoint just to mention a few. I like Word personally.

I agree. I am looking to add an infographic to a site I want it to become an authority but I am finding it hard.
