You can always get the domain you need - or at least something that is close.

Only in very rare cases it makes sense to buy a "premium" domain.

Maybe you should focus on the keywords you are hoping to rank for and then move onto looking for a great domain to fit with that keyword. Getting more creative can help also.

I just add "site" or "pro" or something to that effect to the end of the keywords I want and I'm done with it. It's easier than trying to hunt down an exact match and I've found I can still rank the sites fairly easily.

Be careful when you search for domain name. If you find good one buy it right away. Next time you look it will be taken

There are many short and interesting domains available on godaddy. But you have think about a name which other people can't think of.

Maybe you have to more creative? Are you looking for EMDs or more brandable names?

Of course there are a lot of good domains that are taken, but also a lot of domains that aren't yet even thought of. I would spend the time finding a great domain name that doesn't cost thousands. I pay reg fee for my domains and don't have a problem finding a great domain name, particularly now since EMDs don't automatically hold a SEO advantage. If you're creative enough, it's not hard to come up with a great branded domain name.

I just checked and goodcheapdomain.com is available. I know... Rob shut up!

Just get creative with your domains you search for.

Creativity is the key to success here. If the domain you were hoping for is NOT available then just be creative and come up with something close to the original idea. There will always be good domains to available, if you learn to be creative.

I am still in domain flipping and websites flipping business. To get real gems I always trust on two sources. Godaddy Auctions is the first and other one which you might be unaware is PRDROP.info .

both os these places have many expired domain names which are also premium. Only you need to find properly. Till now I have made $5k + from domain flipping and websites flipping and I really enjoyed it.
Its shortcut for money nothing else. I hope you liked my tip.

EMD are not as important as they used to be so just add a word at the end, ...or I heard on a webinar recently that a "brand" type domain is now being seen on page 1 vs EMD. Just google your keyword and look at page one, you probably won't see EMD like you use to. Things have changed

Think creatively and you will be able to find a domain that is still available. Usually if you enter a domain that is already taken, the registrar will show some variations that are available. Now these are usually not the best suggestions ever, but can serve as a starting point when trying to think of a good variation.
If you need more inspiration, you could use things like the Google Adwords Keyword tool to enter different keywords and get related keywords suggestions.

    No and yes.

    Why/How?

I don't bother with dopey EMDs. Use a domain name that you would use for a brick and mortar store. You'll find that it becomes MUCH easier to find good ones. Oh, and people will take your site more seriously.

I mean, it's kinda hard to take "underwaterdigitalcamerasunder100.org" seriously.

    Hey Jeff,

You can always register a new domain name for cheaper price rather then paying a high fee for one you always wanted and that someone else already bought.

You can use different variations in that name to come up with one that was not purchased previously.

I would sit in front of your computer and try to come up with other domain names that are not taken. It is really easy to do and I don't think that you should pay a high fee for a domain name that was already registered. That would be a waste of your money and time (More of your money to be honest).

Usually I add "the" or something like that on the beginning of the name.. or else, I would see the similar options ( in Godaddy, I don't know if other registrar provide it ) and be creative with it..

Why not pick an unconventional TLD and build a nice short domain? They are on the top now. Using this, you can choose a very nice domain at a low price and it may even contain the words you need. This is called a domain hack. Here is the tool to search for domain hacks if you do not have any ideas.

    EMD = Exact Match Domain

For example, bestunderwatercamerasunder100.org is a hideous one that you would use if you were targeting "best underwater cameras under $100".

    Stay away from EMDs.....

      That is not correct.

Stay away from web sites that have little or no content. It does not matter whether it is and an EMD or an NEMD (Not Exact Domain Match) or NOMD (No Match Domain); if the content of the web site is crap Google will treat you accordingly.
