How to Use YouTube to Drive Massive Traffic? (Quick Tips)

Hi Warriors,

Video is a stellar way to not only get fast traffic to your site, but highly interactive, engaging and targeted traffic to your site. Not to mention the residual benefits of it.

I just began to seriously engage in video marketing the beginning of this year and I've noticed that my audience responding well to it, so I thought I'd share some tips on what I've learned about driving YouTube traffic.

For YouTube to work effectively, there's a few things that you should do. I won't go into all the details, but here are some simple basics that have been working for me:
  • Just focus on being yourself if your videos. Don't put on a fake front and expect people to flock to you, because they wont. People can smell phoniness from a mile away, even from behind a computer screen, so just BE YOU.
  • You don't have to be a video production professional to do video. You can simply use a webcam or flip cam to record your videos. You can even use your Iphone or Android to record them. What matters the most is the content of your video rather than the quality. As long as the quality is decent and you can be seen and heard, go for it!
  • As far as getting views and subscribers to your videos and channel, you can treat it just like you do blogging. You can contact other channel owners within your niche who already have lots of views and subscribers and ask to do a guest video on their channel. You can also do build a vlogging alliance and treat it the same way you would a blogging alliance.
  • You can do video swaps, paid channel promotions for other channels to link back to your channel from their main YouTube page. You can even do JV YT giveaways with related channels, or a JV video series where each channel does a video about a specific topic over the course of several episodes and promote each others videos to their subscribers.
  • You can simply embed your videos on your blog within your post to get more views (this is also good for decreasing your bounce rate).
  • You can also cross promote your blog and your channel. Within your blog posts you can link back to your channel to encourage more people to subscribe and within your videos you can place a simple annotation that links back to your blog. Win, win!

How does these ideas sound to you? They've proven to be extremely effective for getting a windfall of YouTube traffic for me and others.

I'd love to hear any additional ides you have for getting YouTube traffic, so please do share them below!

    Great info!

    1. Proper SEO on the title and descriptions actually work wonderfully for video sites. Less competition as compared to search ranking.

    2. Social media. Facebook, Twitter work well with video promotion.

Thanks for your input, @khooster. Another promotion tool I would suggest is using Pintrest. I've read several articles recently that exhibit the effectiveness of integrating YouTube and Pintrest. I can certainly see how this would be great for promotion. I'll definitely be testing this tactic out myself. I look forward to seeing what kind of results it'll bring.

Yes, video marketing works really nice but just like articles, not every single video that you create will be shown on page 1 of Google for the keywords that you entered in your title or description. Don't forget that you are competing with others who are doing the same thing.

I have done this in the past with some success. You can not rely on this single strategy to get traffic. You need to have other places like articles, forum marketing, and paid advertising work for you.

The key is to have new videos uploaded on a daily basis.

good info, and i suggest you add this one. Every time you upload a new video on YouTube, you have the opportunity to add a description of the content. Most marketers never take advantage of this function. add your site there, so that if they like the video, a chance of them linking to your site is high

Create a video that’s educational, artistic, funny, entertaining or interesting enough to capture the attention of your audience, and you’ve just made a new fan who can’t wait to subscribe to your YouTube channel or share your video on social networks with family and friends. But at the end of the day, what you really want is for people to take enough of an interest in you that they take the time to subscribe to your channel and eventually visit your website or blog.

I love the idea of being natural and just create the video to get the word out. Thanks for sharing great tips on how to get more traffic from Youtube. One way that I think is useful is to convert the content that I have into video so that I can repurpose the content.

Thanks for the awesome suggestions, Fellas.

@JasonBennet - I'm glad to hear that you like the natural approach. That's my whole angel and all that I do. I drive the bulk of my traffic through inbound marketing and building relationships with other IM'ers/bloggers in my niche. I don't do any intentional SEO and the bulk of my blog traffic comes from social media and other referral sites.

I'm a firm believer in the power of relationships and working with others to achieve a common goal. And through building relationships, you will always have a consistent traffic stream, regardless of when Google's engineers turn the dials on us.
