Resurrecting old sites

I am hoping some people here can lead me in the right direction. Back in 2008, I had some really active sites. Due to neglect on my part (medical reasons and hospitalization/recovery) the traffic to these sites have fallen quite a bit. I am now trying to figure out the best way to drive new traffic to the sites and resurrect these sites.

Would some people throw out some suggestions on the best way to do this?

    Welcome back.

The one idea I would throw out the window is doing SEO on your sites to get them ranked high in Google. I am referring to your home page.

2nd, I would add some new affiliate programs to them if they are getting any traffic from the search engines.

3rd, I would recommend that you start to advertise them with video marketing, article marketing, pay per click, and also create new content on your sites everyday so that you have a good chance to get your articles or blog posts get indexed in the search engines. Don't try to get your home page indexed.

If you can, add a newsletter to each site.

Thanks for the quick response and tips. Most are wordpress sites and one is a custom made script. All the sites still work and still receive visitors, albeit, only about 10% or so from the last time I was able to work on them. Can you recommend some of the newer SEO technics (or threads here) that I can start to implement which will not piss off Google or Microsoft?

I would suggest looking through your semantic core. Several years passed, and the keywords may not be useful any more while some new appeared. Do a good research, look at your competitors. If you have google analytics and google webmaster trackers installed you have an amazing opportunity to do some analysis on what has been happening with your traffic sources and keywords during this time.
