promoting affiliate offers by email vs own product

Hey Warriors,

So when I create a product myself and promote it to my email list I usually make close to 5 figures each time BUT when I promote an affiliate offer I struggle to make much money at all..

Here is what I do when I launch my own product.. Basically I presell quite a bit..
  1. 1. Email 5-6 days out from the launch to notify people about it.
  2. 2. Email the day before to tell them to be ready at the certain time, give scarcity etc.
  3. 3. Email on the day. **Go Go Go**
  4. 4. Email the day after the launch
  5. *5. Email 2-3 days after (only sometimes)
When Promoting Affiliate Products
Is there a technique you would recommend for promoting affiliate products.. Would you do the same kind of presell technique or just do a broadcast on the day of the launch..... OR would you do a video review......... or just a short email listing the benefits with a link..

Interested to hear your opinions.

    Fergal,

    1. The product must be very relevant to your list. That is MOST important.

    2. The product must be something you genuinely feel will help them in their current situation. Don't just promote stuff because you want to make money. Promote stuff because you think it will genuinely help your subscribers.

    3. Don't be promoting all the time. Some marketers send out email promos every day and all it does is weakens their recommendations. I will only send out a promo every few weeks, if that. Only when I have something I really think is important enough to share. So when I send out a recommendation they know it's something they have to check out because I promote so rarely. The truth is majority of products out there do not need to be shared with my list as it will only sidetrack them from their ultimate goal.

Promoting less often does not have to mean less profit though. I make more money from those promotions than most of the affiliates promoting stuff everyday. I know this because I have had those types of affiliates promote my products before and they tend to have very unresponsive lists because they just hammer then with offers each day.

    4. I do video reviews mostly.

    5. If you can, offer them a bonus for buying through your link. If you can make the bonus worth more than the price of the product you are recommending then it will work even better. It's not uncommon for people to buy certain products just because they want your bonus and not so much the product you are promoting.

I'm going to add one mistake that I believe I have been making..

Don't promote at 5pm Phuket time.. as the majority of your buyers are asleep..

Best to promote at 10am ET like I do with my own product launches..

What time do you usually launch Will? I see you are in Australia..

You're right, the time is the matter. I think 8am is the prime time.

This is solid advice right here. It's been to focus only on recommending products to your email list, only when you feel that it will genuinely help them. Spamming your list is a surefire way to get massive unsubscribers.

I agree with Will, great advice.

Right now I only promote 2 affiliate products to my list. One is an instant commission traffic product and the other is a insanely valuable IM membership site. And, they both compliment each other greatly, you can't have one without the other.

I think these kind of products (an instant payment one time purchase product and a recurring membership site that compliments the other) are the best kind of affiliate products to promote because (1) you get instant money upfront that you can reinvest into your marketing efforts and (2) you bring in consistent residuals on the back end, which will stabilize your income.

I only recommend these two products to my list because they are the only two products that have helped me achieve great results in my business. Like Will said, you never should promote anything that you haven't personally gotten results with.

I promote these affiliate products with 2 separate bonuses attached to each one. The one time purchase product has a 3 free video bonus (that I've recorded myself). This bonus is way more valuable than the product itself and has been the reason why most people buy the product.

The membership site I promote bonus is free access to my own membership site that I created that focuses on a topic that compliments the main membership site I promote, plus weekly webinars (that I personally do). This is a ridiculously valuable bonus and whoever purchases gets the value of 2 memberships sites for the price of one.

So when you're creating your bonuses, think about how you can over deliver to make the purchase a no brainer.

      I hope this helps you.

      Ti

P.S. I only send out 1 promo email a week that pushes the main product, the membership site - because it has the most long-term benefit and is the most valuable.
