When your writing gets on Amazon ...

This morning I woke up to an intriguing e-mail from google alerts, with a link pointing to Amazon for a report I published and sold PLR to about 2 years ago (my first infoproduct ever!)

Which is why I am now confused, should I be flattered the report made it that far, or pissed off because someone is now selling it on Amazon for kindle, with my name and original cover in place?

I'm having my first cup of coffee for the day as I'm thinking about this and was wondering if anyone had ever had similar experience or thoughts to share...

Confuzzled Alex.

    Hey Alexandre,

What were the rights you sold with PLR? Could they resell it with your name on it, or were they required to rebrand it prior to reselling it?

My experience is anything that has been sold with PLR rights generally makes it into the public domain after a few years, as copies become so prevalent that enforcing any rights becomes impracticle.

I would take it as a huge complement and free advertising!

      Leigh,

Yes, I wasn't really thinking about the practicality of going after anything, I'm just surprised that someone would leave the original author's name and graphics in place if they are going to release it on amazon.

The product is selling there for $3.10, making me wonder how many sales can go through the system every month at that price. With maybe a hundreds of reports like this on there, the person behind it must be getting a fair share of profits from the big A. Now that's a free business system right there for the right person to tackle

I only wish I had done more self-promotion inside the book.
      Oh, well, live and learn

    Hi Alex,

Confuzzled, huh? Well..if it is a PLR product I would assume the seller would have not included your name and used the same graphics. And usually the license would specifiy the dos and dont's.

I too am a bit confuzzled here..but the fact that it is selling on amazon is a feather in your cap. It speaks to the quality of your work.

You could come up with a part two/updated copyrighted version and talk about your first edition and really expose yourelf...I mean self promotion! I am sure it would not take long to whip something up.

    My 2.5cents worth!

    Take care,

    Sonia

BTW...Kindle can be used wisely for promotion. Something to think about...

It can perfectly legal if you did not specify rights with the plr product.

I would use that as a testimonial!

Infact, I have some products of mine collecting dust and may sell plr rights only if you offer it on Amazon!

Hell, I may give them to people to sell on Amazon!

Check me out! Others are selling my product on Amazon and you can get it on Kindle!

    Cool!

    Sonia and Tex,

I was starting to think about something along those lines actually and piggy back on this eventually as I am planning to publish and release my first book in print this year if nothing gets in the way.

One way or the other, it really shouldn't be any biggie, but it still feels somewhat strange to know your ebook or report is now selling on the big A. Kinda adds a new level to selling infoproducts.

The idea of publishing a sequel or revised edition is also very smart!
This is a wake up call to really start capitalizing on your greatest asset - your brand!

Remember to toot your own horn anytime you can, especially with PLR and MRR - most people won't change the content and you'll be getting free viral publicity

Yes, it would be smart to produce an updated version with more aff. links, self promo. links, etc. That way, your version would appear under similar items or "you might also be interested in..." results.

You could publish your improved edition and make sure it is
similar enough title-wise so when YOU put it on Amazon it
pops up on the same page. Dunno if your market is big
enough to make it worth the trouble: I bet you could just
siphon the traffic off the PLR product and sell your new
    version instead.
