Newbie needs some advice - domain related

Hi Guys,

I am a newbie - just started learning about IM 20 days ago.

I have wanted to do IM for years now, and never did anything about it. This time around, I am motivated, and I want to succeed.

So I started a personal blog, just for myself. I am using it to track my progress and mainly to keep myself focused and accountable.

I chose a domain name that meant something to me, but its kinda long, and has hyphens etc. But I didn't care because it was just for me.

Now, I was speaking to another guy who has been doing IM for years, he said I should change my blog domain to something more simple and easy, and I should be aware that I am now 'creating content' I might use someday. I never thought of it as content LOL - I am just not thinking the way IM'ers do

So I need advice - should I change to a new domain?

My current one: www.journey-of-a-thousand-miles.com

Possible new one: www.myjourneyonline.com

Advice? Suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Dean

you can always but a new one and direct it to the old one
A shorter domain name helps you if you want to write your domain name down

I would buy the new domain and direct it to the old site and use it for marketing reasons

Since you are going to be blogging it's best In my opinion to do a little keyword research and find yourself a couple of keywords with traffic and if you can include that phrase in your domain the better. I am just thinking of SEO purposes and keeping that in mind while you build your site and post. That will just turn out to be another traffic source for you. There's tons of traffic without google as well so it's what you like and want to do. Do you want to brand yourself? Work just as a unseen super affiliate?

Since you want this to be the domain where people can find out about your stuff, choose a domain name that you can easily pronounce and that is easy to remember.

myjourneyonline.com is better than the other.

    However...
You should keep in mind that more and more
people are using smartphone for internet.
Your domain seem too long for chubby fingers on smartphone.

    myjourneyonline.com

as it is short to use and remember.
Also use webmaster tools to transfer your site so that the indexed pages also stays where they are in the SERP

Do I really need to worry about this - the blog is brand new, literally only 20 days old.

It wouldn't really have any rankings or anything valuable yet.

Like all the other opinions I see... the 2nd one is better and more appealing than the 1st.

Keep in mind that there are many other ways of getting free traffic to your site than just SEO. It's recommended to do non-SEO traffic methods first... then SEO about 6 months down the road when you have a steady stream of traffic.

Make your site appealing to humans first - then computers 2nd.
