My site has no traffic

I used to have a blog writer compose blogs and we would promote them through social media, do on page SEO and nothing. So we've tried writing my own (with videos) promoting the video through traffic geyser, spinning the articles and posting them through TG, using onlywire, tribe pro, social monkee and posting in LI groups.

I've done keyword research and try to optimize each article using seopressor.

Yesterday starting posting my blogs on a blogger and wordpress.com site (spun versions).

So far in two weeks no difference. Slight drop in Alexa, one more backlink.

Even been using tubetoolbox to send out notifications when I get upload new videos. More views (slightly) on videos but nothing to get excited about.

I'm at about 1000 hits to my website monthly. Need to be more about 50k!

I really am confused- what am I doing wrong.

I've always heard content is king, but even though I think I'm making decent content nothing matters.

Buy some banner space or PPC and you'll get more traffic.

If you want free traffic then you better build some backlinks to your content. Put them on related sites and keep doing this every day. Only persistence will win in the end as it always does..

Two weeks isn't enough time, especially given your target market. If you're anxious to start testing, why not buy traffic?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[7709313].message }}
    • I guess more than anything I want to know if what I'm doing are the right things. I don't mind waiting and I'd rather get free traffic than pay for it. If I need to just keep doing what I'm doing and wait I'm fine with that. Just want feedback.

Buy some traffic : ) Media buying is key to creating a blog. Also building a list in any niche is extremely powerful because you will have traffic on demand, and this gives you so many different ways to use it. Like building hype, creating social proof and on and on. I am sure you get it solos are a great way to do this.

A simple way to do this if you are not in the MMO niche. Contact a webmaster directly and ask to rent an add to their email list. A lot of these people don't even know that this is possible. So your price point will be low and allow you some time to learn good email copy : )
    Hope I helped a bit

Media buying? MMO? Sorry I don't know what those are. How do you do the webmaster renting? I've never heard of that.

Hi, I just check your site and spy it with Seoquake browser tool.
It says that you don´t have any meta keywords?
Check your seo settings again. It might help a bit.

Thanks. I've optimized but still seems to have that not showing up and need to figure out why. I'll look into that!

Really?...nobody uses meta keywords anymore, even more so because it allows your competitors to know exactly what keywords you are targetting and google totally ignores them..meta keywords went out when metasearch engines died

2 weeks is nowhere near enough time to get organic traffic! Keep posting regular content and publishing it across your social networks as well as social bookmarking sites. Are you sharing your stuff on LinkedIn Groups? I've found that LinkedIn drives a good amount of targeted traffic back to blogs, especially if you're B2B. Do you have an email newsletter list? You can use your blog posts as content for the newsletter. Or do you have relationships with other bloggers that would be willing to help promote your content?

I would avoid spinning your posts though, as this could have you run afoul of Google Panda.

Awesome advice. Can you give me an idea on how long it normally takes? Just on average are we talking weeks? Months? Years?

What i would like to advise is to build some quality content and focus on few keywords first try them to rank well and then when your site gets power with those keyword then you will find easy to rank other keywords.

If you are having 20-30 keywords ranking with good amount of searches then you will get good amount of traffic.

    Always use legit ways.

also get some backlinks from web 2.0 profiles , wiki and .edu and try to get backlink from a site that is higher in position than yours and related to the niche.

I have been using this only and have a 57K+ UV a day on my blog.

    Best of luck

Looking at that, I can't help but think that you're spending about 90% of your time fussing about with software, and not focusing on whats really important - PEOPLE.

You're wasting your time with most of that rubbish. Focus on creating high quality content on your OWN site. Publish content there, consistently, and use external properties to drive traffic to your site. BUT - be smart about it. Syndicate your content, don't just spin rubbish all over the place.

        Obviously not.

If it's not working, STOP doing it.

BTW - 2 weeks is not long enough to be pressing panic buttons. You should be thinking LONG TERM. Try at least 6 months of consistent content.

Put your USERS first. Give them the best experience. Something that wants them coming back, over and over again.

Thanks John. I have been creating good content lately. As I stated, I used to have someone else write posts but they were boring and not personalized to my market. So I decided to start creating my own content so people would know/like/trust me. I also care about people. I'm active in LI groups, not just posting, I engage FB fans, etc. I appreciate the feedback.

Duplicate backlinks from stuff like a signature where the anchortext/everything is always the same is not treated the same as normal backlinks.

Essentially signature backlinks are like having 1 backlink, where the 4,800 places it shows up add a bit of authority.

(He probably also has other backlinks too, though).

My signature file is there to allow REAL PEOPLE to find out more about me. It's not there for any other reason. Besides, seriously, why would I be targeting a keyword like "Bring the Donuts"?????

I have no idea what you mean by "a variety of keywords"

I don't build backlinks. I syndicate my content across a variety of channels. There's a big difference.

All I'm concerned about is producing excellent content and my users experience. Its all created with PEOPLE in mind - not algorithms. That stuff will take care of itself.

You are fighting with the wrong person, I love your site.

You were mentioning that you had traffic, and my impression is: the traffic is probably mostly off SE.

Most top bloggers don't just get their traffic from social media sites alone either (themselves) here's what I mean. They build their audience through other bloggers by engaging with and sharing other bloggers post, building a network of blogging friends who throw their influence on each other which shares each others audience.

Sites like Blogengage, Famousbloggers.net etc are networks where bloggers and people interested in content to SHARE hangout. Once you start engaging on these networks, you upload your blog post and others will share it versus just tweeting a couple links to your facebook and twitter followers.

Then, you capture this audience through your blog to your email list. Quality over quantity, you could have 100 - 500+ blog subscribers that send your content viral everytime you post, you have to build a network. It's just like launching a product, you can have the best product but if no one knows about it, you won't drive traffic or make sales, you have to recruit affiliates, right?

Same thing, engage, share other bloggers post, reach out to them, build a network around your blog in THOSE networks, you can search the forum or google more blogging networks and jon them. Once you start building influence with your blog, the easier it becomes, blogging is HARD work and time consuming, if you're not ready for that, don't do it. Depending on your writing skills, you can start guest blogging asap which will build your brand and reciprocate traffic back to your blog.

I am a successful blogger myself, here's 2 blogs you can learn from getting traffic.

How I Got 247+ Twitter Retweets And Over 3,910+ Visitors In 168 Hours, At No Cost...

How I Got 1,769 Unique Visitors, 429 Facebook Likes, 117 Retweets, and 132 Sugars?

Thank you very much! I love that idea

Google for me comes in 5th.

Forget about meta keywords. They're redundant and have been for years.

Try at least 6 months before you start worrying about metrics. But monitor it during that time, to track progress.

Forget about building backlinks. Concentrate on getting your content strategy sorted.

The site in my signature (Bring the Donuts) hit 118 unique visitors yesterday and it's 8 weeks old.

          What did I do?

I created good content. Almost every day during that time. That's all I cared about. Creating content, and my users experience.

You mentioned you are not building any backlinks to your blog posts or the main site. I will suggest you to try building some quality backlinks. It will not take much time from your part. Even if you are too reluctant to build backlink, you can try commenting on other blogs with your website as source. It will give you some traffic as well as decent backlinks.

Everything other you are doing is fine.

Ya seems like you are pretty inpatient with your SEO efforts. If you have a relatively new domain getting indexed in google and getting organic traffic normally takes a few weeks if you are really good and can take months if you're not expert...

I would suggest buying traffic on a small scale to test... Or you can drive some free traffic by creating Youtube videos and SEO'ing them because Youtube vids rank much easier than a domain in most cases

Hi, have you tried to focus ONLY on your blog instead of the other tactics you mention?
Simply have a hosted wordpress blog and for each article, switch on your webcam, talk about the article for about 3 to 5 minutes without editing, then add your blog url as overlay and upload it to one youtube account, the same one, then embed it at the top of your article page. Fill in title and description in youtube with a link back to your article.
Then do only that as many times as you can with all the free time you've got from not doing anything else.
In my opinion you'll see great increase in traffic after a few weeks only, simply keep on doing that exact thing.

Getting 50K traffic in two weeks is pretty hard. 1K/month is already pretty decent if you just recently created your website.

Also, I'm not really sure if this applies to you, but you might have a misconception of "on-page SEO". This helps rank your website higher on keywords, doesn't mean that this is the only variable that ranks your website. Sometimes, if you're lucky, this could be the sole cause but have you tried off-page SEO as well? This also goes for your YouTube videos, since you're using a software to get views, how many of your views are actually organic? Are your videos ranked for any of your keywords?

Just having good content isn't enough. It's one of the most crucial things you need, yes, but you also need many other things as well to act as a supplementary to actually get your content read

    Focus on quality posts.

Like... post stuff that people literally feel obligated to link/tweet/etc.

Don't post a single article unless it is so amazing that 100% of people who see it, read the post, and think--"What am I doing with my life, I need to read more of these articles."

I'm exaggerating, but basically the moment when I stopped posting articles for Google, cut back on how often I post (therefore, putting more time into each article), my SEO started to really grow.

It's almost like an oxymoron, but the higher quality of your posts, the more natural traffic will come your way.

    Don't worry.

Yeah I was just explaining that the signature link doesn't really mean anything for SEO.

Honestly if people would start doing what you/me do, and focus less on ranking, they would realize SEO will work itself out overtime.

      You're right.

But unfortunately with so much emphasis being placed on "keywords", and "rankings", and "SEO", its a trap that many fall into.

      I did it too.

I lost my way and became a Google zombie. I lost 80% of my income overnight. I've learned my lesson. NEVER again.

In order to succeed, you just gotta get back to the basics.

Posting high quality content on your website's is the most important thing that you can do for your website's long term success.

I would actually advise most newbies to not even worry about any SEO because it can actually distract you from writing for HUMANS and NOT search engines.

Don't "work on backlinks", work on providing interesting content. The Internet is full of rubbish made popular by the owner's own backlinking and social media tricks. I'm not a fan of Google, but I have to say that Internet Marketers (myself included) are to blame for the way things have turned out.
We see an opportunity and we all jump on board the wrecking train and do exactly that - WRECK IT.

You don't sound like you're doing anything wrong, so long as the content is good content.

Spinning results - they're really going to depend on how well spun they are - they need to at least look different, but also make sense. In a lot of cases spinning just makes things sound like they're written in pigeon english. I don't use spinning much any more, it's really noticeable and the results are probably not really worth the effort.

You have to be careful with over optimisation too - so things like natural looking anchor text.

What sorts of social proof are you getting? Are you getting a lot of likes, g+, (re)tweets? Your ranking will depend massively on that.

I found with new sites when I did that, that it can take a few months before the site gets any velocity, at least doing things the way that you are...

For traffic - buy it - PPC. That traffic will also help to reinforce your sites popularity, but of course, it costs you to do so.

Make a post every day estimately 1 - 5 post every day. Of course its a hard woprk for part timers, but it worth it in time. Plus, you can create a article writing competition to get more articles.
