Have you seen any article worth more than $5k?

A 'web article' that is intrinsically worth $5k? How would we know? There are plenty of pages that make more than that - but are they worth the money because of the article quality?

In that price-range, it has a lot to do with by whom it's been written, Chris. There are some magazines and newspapers who'll pay prices like that to some authors (but typically they'll be buying more rights than just first publication rights, and they'll recover some of the cost through syndication arrangements.)

Articles that are "worth" $5k are often going to have that sort of value attributed to them because of the specific circumstances/publications and author-reputation, not just according to their content and how they're written.

If you or I write a truly brilliant article tomorrow, however well written it is, nobody's going to pay either of us $5k for it. Tony Blair, on the other hand, is going to get a much bigger fee than that for an article about the Middle East (how much of it he'll actually have written himself is anyone's guess - and of course it'll typically be very widely syndicated, in various forms, after its original publication).

It's not just about "quality", once you get above about $1k for an article, I think. Some regular newspaper columnists get in the range of $2-$3k for an article (though most get far less), but that's partly/mostly because of "who they are".

What an article is "worth" is hard to tell. If an article make $1 a day it will over time be worth $5000, but I guess that is not your question.

Many scientists and researchers will spend years or more to prepare and write an article. These articles make careers or increase reputation.

I think you will be able to make $5000 from an article, but only if you can prove certain things from your previous articles. I would gladly pay $100 for an article if your previous content proved to generate a ton of natural backlinks and social shares. I guess companies will pay more than this.

Also if you are able to write an article as a copywriter that is proved to make sales, that would be worth a lot for the right buyer.

Niche authority and celebrity status would also help increase the value of your work.
