There's gotta be a way

Hello, all.

I have spent the past several months working on building a strong social media presence with many followers on Twitter and on my business Facebook account. I have 857 Facebook friends in my area of ecommerce. I was just notified by LinkedIn today that I have one of the top 1% most viewed LinkedIn profiles for 2012. (LinkedIn has about 200 million members.)

Now What??? How do I take the next step to monetize all of this social media "influence"? I know it sounds silly not to know this but I have been working so hard on building my store and social media presence, I just have not focused on it. Any suggestions from some of you who have taken that next step? All help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jan

I would suggest starting by being "social" and sharing high-quality content that your prospects will find interesting and useful.

If you have a blog, you can pre-sell your followers with good content which educates and informs them. Then, you can follow up with promotions of an infoproduct you're selling, an affiliate product you're promoting, etc.

If you're unsure on how to write high-quality content to share with your followers, I suggest that you start by reading this: How to write an article - some thoughts for article marketers - What Lexy Talks About ...

    Does that help?

Migrate from the social arena and the perception of "popularity" there, and use strategies like Google Adwords, forums, articles, videos, and blogging to get you some better quality traffic. Hopefully you have a blog or site you can send people to.

      Thanks, Joshua,
I do have a blog and I appreciate the link to the article writing blog. It's a big help.

      Malcolm,
I know it's important to build a list and Joshua's suggestion about content will be very helpful with this, so thanks for your input.

      Randall,
I do participate in forums, but haven't yet jumped into videos. I think this is a great suggestion. Thanks so much.

Get them to opt into a list, by offering them something of value for free.

Then it's list building all the way baby!

Thanks, Martin. I don't have a lot of luck with optins. Giving something away sounds like a plan... Again, Thanks

Definitely - now don't do what everyone else does, and give away some poor quality PLR. Either fix it up so it's good, or go for something different. You can do your own videos, audio, a course or whatever. Be creative, and if you can do, try to fit in with your followers niche, or industry.

There isn't anything stopping you pitching a few different niches, so that you segregate them into separate lists, then work on each. Just be careful that you don't stretch yourself too thinly!!

There are so many things to take care of that I sometimes find it a bit overwhelming... who am I kidding?- A LOT overwhelming.... I wish I had a daily checklist of what to do to keep up with everything - now there is an idea - develop one and sell the process as an ebook.

I have received some well considered and helpful responses from this post!!!

Relationships... Reach out to the most influential people in your market and build relationships, get to know more about what they do and learn from them (The ones that are already doing what you want to do).

Start engaging with them and share their content from time to time, which will get you noticed and bring you more exposure. Everyone likes to be mentioned and feel important. The point of social media is to be social, ofcourse you want to build your list and drive traffic to your website in the process, but just talk to them and they'll engage back

I'm pretty sure there have been (a few) WSO's about monitizing Facebook traffic as well as Linkedin traffic.

The gist is always to send people who trust you (your facebook and Linkedin Friends) back to your blog which is set up according to standard monitization methods depending on what your niche is.

A great way to start might be to recommend a fantastic product in your niche for your audience to try out. Explain the benefits, tell them about your great results with said product (assuming you have had great results) and send them to a blog post with your affiliate link on it... ie (check out X Here youraffiliatelinks.com: The Leading Your Affiliate Links Site on the Net .....)

While you are working the affiliate angle, it might be wise to also consider putting together your OWN product. This could be extremely profitable for you if you have a large audience that trusts you and you are an expert in the field and able to provide lots of value!

Alex, Thanks... I do have a blog with some very good articles just not frequently posted. I know I need to work on this and I will. The left column of my blog has categories from my store. I am considering about occassionally posting about items from my store and effective ways to use them - which could draw folks into my store. I have avoided using affiliates or adsense trying to keep customers on my site but I can see how that could be used on the Blog. I have a Yahoo Store which limits what I can do to the store without spe4nding a lot of money on programing. I have considered a pop under with an additional opportunity to optin and maybe some adsense - if I can figure out how to accomplish that.

I have just begun taking notes for an ebook (a short one to give away and a comprehensive one to package for sale. Your suggestions are excellent and much appreciated... Kind Regards, Jan

Thanks, Terrence. I do share posts on facebook and like comments but need to carry that over into LinkedIn. So far on LinkedIn I have commented on quite a few posts and recommended folks for skills but I can do a lot more here. On Pinterest, I try to follow folks in my area of ecommerce and repin items from them that match my "focus". I have found that accepting invitations to group boards results in a much higher repin rate. I fall down on the job on twitter -- I just have to get into the habit. If I could just get folks to my site to optin. I have been considering a Facebook business/fan page. Again. Thanks

I have over 5,000 Twitter followers and I have never attempted to sell them anything. I built this following by using some old techniques that I'm not sure even work anymore. I have an auto-poster set up that drips links to interesting articles related to the niche I picked them from originally. So after a year of doing this I pretty much have them conditioned to think I'm just a guy that likes to send out cool information. At some point I'm going to hit them with a link to an "Awesome new product" of some kind and hopefully since I don't regularly do that I will get a decent response.

Well it may seem simple but..you need to start selling stuff. You need to switch your mindset from friendships to selling. You need to feel fine with promoting to these people. Find great offers or products you create yourself that will help all these people and let them know about it so they can benefit and so can you.
Bottom line is you have access to a lot of people so give them something of value and ask for money in return.

One of my customers runs a facebook page with over 40k likes. He is looking to monitize it by directing the traffic on his facebook page to a website.

I would probably do that and have an opt in form on the site.

    Build the list!!!
