How do you hide affiliate ID?

I would like to hide the affiliate ID that invariably shows up in the url when someone clicks on an affiliate link?

The purpose is this. Say I am doing an impartial product review but would like to insert my affiliate ID to the product page and don't people to know I am including my ID.

Do you mean cloak your affiliate link so that it looks like a different URL?

A free solution that I've used (and works well) is bit.ly. You can also purchase a domain name and redirect that to your affiliate link.

I want people to only see the destination url such as Amazon.com/product

      and not.......

Amazon.com/product/MyID (or something of that variation).

I obviously want my affiliate ID tracked by the merchant but without visible signs.

Aaah, I KNOW there's a way to do that using Javascript, but I've forgotten. I tried doing a search in Google, but couldn't find anything.

If you're savvy with Javascript, you should be able to find a way to do it. If not, then find a friend who is. I know it isn't a very complex or difficult process, I just can't remember how it's done.

I think some people only read your first post and not the one after it, so, let me put both your quotes below for the lazy. Maybe someone can be helpful.

I use pretty link pro to change my links to something more presentable. It does increase my total number of clicks. I also like the fact that it can track how may clicks it receives and from how many unique url's as well.

There are affiliate link cloaking plugins for wordpress that should do this. Maybe check out WordPress › Affiliate Link Cloaker « WordPress Plugins or find something like it.

I would be careful with that. It is not acceptable for many advertisers. You may need to spend extra time reading their TOS

Now maybe this isn't exactly what u are after but anyways...
What I've done is create a php page on my site that redirects to my aff link so instead of the affiliate link. The link they click on might be something like: www .mysite. com/go/affproduct.php

Use an URL Shorter like bit.ly or tinyurl.com, or use a free host and setup a domain with a PHP script that automatically redirects them to the affiliate link. It's the best way, and the only way. Of course, don't post it on WF!

I sometimes use the Pretty Link plugin to create links on my sites. For example..... mysite.com/product that will redirect to some affiliate site. But I don't try to cloak the external website. I feel that is dirty. I'm not trying to trick people into thinking I am something that I am not.

If you are in the U.S. you may want to review the FTC regulations requiring disclosure if you are generating income and the like from affiliate links. Not only must you not even think of hiding the relationship -- you must overtly declare it in your marketing material. If you are writing an 'impartial review' where you expect to collect commissions, well, the review isn't 'impartial' unless you declare that fact.

That violates FTC rules. It isn't impartial and you can be held liable by the FTC for fraud. There are disclosure requirements for reviews with remuneration now read them and learn them! It could save you criminal or civil liability.
