Experienced Marketers - What's Your One Biggest Tip - Newbies Take Note...

Hey guys,

I would like to start this thread for the benefit of newbies, however i'm sure that the expeienced members will find a few golden nuggets... Especially if enough people chime in.

Now i'm by no means experienced, however the one biggest piece of advice I would give to anyone just starting out in IM would be...

Set aside a specific time each day to work on your business. Even if it is only 1 hour a day, you need to get into the habit of actually workine every day.

If anyone else wants to give advice please feel free.

My main tip: INTEGRITY MATTERS. Everything you do online either pushes your brand forward or pushes it back. There is no such thing as a neutral action. Pack as much quality into what you do and the rest will follow. Too many people shoot for MONEY FIRST and they are way too eager to cut corners. INTEGRITY should be your first focus and it will become the cornerstone of a SOLID business that can withstand the test of time.

Absolutely, writeaway ... the printing industry, or most any other conventional industry, never would have survived without it.

When I see integrity in anything online, how REFRESHING after sifting through all the other ilk out there!!

    Never giving up.

I've spent thousands of dollars plus hours of time and failed quite a bit before I was able to finally make a living off IM a year ago.

Get knocked down 7 times and get back up 8.

The best advice anyone can get when you're just starting out is to follow things through!

It's easy to learn about a whole bunch of stuff and do a little bit here and there but you'll never actually set up an internet business by doing that...

All that's going to happen is you will constantly be bombarded with information you think you need and you'll have a severe case of overwhelm. So to sum up in one sentence my advice would be to pick ONE business model, set up everything you need to run that business, and then drive traffic or do whatever you need to do to run that particular business properly.

If you are starting out I'd say focus is one of the most important things.
Make a plan and stick to it for at least 2/3 months, depending on how much time you put into it every day. Don't go jumping from one method to another every other week or you'll never see results, and will get frustrated really soon

I basically agree with this, but would change it in one very specific way:

Get one thing done every day. Having an hour set aside is fine, and a definitely step in the right direction, but I prefer to set a results-oriented target. An hour spent reading about IM may or may not produce money in the long run, but an hour invested in writing a blog post, or getting another couple of pages of your ebook done, or setting up an opt-in page, is another concrete step toward pulling in some money. Stack enough of those steps together and you'll have something up, running and earning soon enough.

        My Advice:

Regardless of what you are doing, PLANNING is the key, and can change your life (and results.)

        How to Plan:

        1) Draw a rough mindmap on paper first.. Everything you can think of that is relevant to your project, and how it connects to everything else (brain-dump.)

        2) Next, put all that into freemind and work on it some more. Plan everything down to the last detail, until you end up with a simple to-do list. (btw, You don't need ALL the answers before you begin, just an idea of the bigger picture, and the next 1-3 steps.)

        3) Work your way through your to-do list. Keep referring back to your mindmap every few days/whenever you get stuck, and making changes as different obstacles arise (Lol, nothing EVER goes according to plan! :p)

This may sound too simple but, used consistently, it will eliminate information overload, and help you to stay focused and efficient, while completing ANY project. You will always know, at a glance, exactly where you are at, and what you need to focus on next.

Have a clear plan for the 1 hour per day workload.
My recommended plan for free traffic methods:
    1. 15 mins x forum posting(good quality posting, please)
    2. 15 mins x create a 400 words article in your blog
    3. 15 mins x search for new keywords to target
    4. 15 mins x backlink works (blog comments, directory submissions)

I do that for 3 months for my website consistently. And it become increasely profitable ever since for the past one year.

I guaranteed any newbie follow this faithfully, he will get results.
There is no need to look for special method way for making money online.

I've got lots of tips but I'll focus on one...

Be careful who you take advice from. There are many people that theorize and "play" business without actually having any experience at all, and they always love to give advice.

Instead, use common sense, build relationships with people over time, and don't take anything at face value...test everything for yourself.

If the first time you learned walking and fell flat on your face you said to yourself: "this walking thing doesn't work" you wouldn't be where you're at today. And the same thing is with your online business: The more challenges you can overcome the further you will go. So never give up if this is really something you want to know, do and master for the rest of your life.

Fast forward 18 months I went back and "oh ok, you were sort of right" I never said he was right, just "sort of right".

I asked him the real stuff and then I went from there. Thing is, had I not gone my own way for a while, I would never have known what those questions were.

I would have just been asking the stupid questions that I could have gotten the answer to from Google.

Most people FAIL because they don't ask the right questions, usually because they don't even know what the right questions to ask are in the first place.

The only way you discover those questions is to fail and think "oh sh*t, I should have asked him that!"

If your not asking the right questions specific to you, no mentor in the world can help you, they will just be suggesting things to you, that work for them but make no sense to you as a noob.
        I understand what your saying.

The problem is, for a beginner, you don't know what to ask or how to go on your own.

If your just starting out and you pay for a mentor, you do what he says and listen to them. That's what your paying him for.

You don't argue with them. You follow his exact instructions, even if you think their wrong.

If their good at their job, you will make money and see you had the wrong thought process the entire time.

You listen to the people that know what they are doing. You don't disagree and find out the hard way.

As someone who's spent 7 years in this, I have two tips really, and believe they're extremely important.

    1) Don't be afraid of competitive markets. You don't stand to make hardly any money if you're not in one, and there's so many ways to compete that you'd be surprised. I repeat, don't be afraid of the competition-that means there's money being made!

    2) Find out what part of IM is for you, and I really mean that. I tried all types of things that just didn't suit me. Part of it really comes down to what personality type you are, and some things are much more difficult than others.

I tried some things, such as affiliate marketing over and over again, and it was a long road till I finally found my "thing", which is product creation.

Look at two key areas: find a subject you enjoy (one which has a lot of competition and money in it), and find what angle to approach it from-i.e., are you going to create products about it, become an affiliate marketer and promote existing products on the subject, create custom made videos about it for marketers, etc.

Understand that there are tons of different ways to run an online business. Find what reasonably fits you, instead of going after something because that's what everyone else is doing. But just remember that being in a busy market is key!

Take advice with a grain of salt because you don't know who you are listening too on the other side of the screen. If it feels right do it, if it don't, don't do it. Keep it simple.
Pick a business model and do it consistently everyday.

The "doing" is the hardest, but, if you do it, then you wont be among the posers, you'll be among the ones who really make money online, or, at least taking action, (they aren't just typing in a forum), they actually are who they say they are.

    My half a cent advice.

Find one of the "good guys" that have integrity and really care about people. Learn from them, for instance Chris Farrell, Mark Ling etc. Learn their way of marketing and don't stop until you can duplicate their success. Then branch out with your own ideas.

In other words, don't try to re-invent the wheel. It's all been done before!

For me by biggest advice is to "work harder on yourself than on your job" - Jim Rohn. You need to train your mind for success. If you are trying to learn something and its not working but others are doing it the problem is not the program but its the approach you are taking. You THINK you are taking the correct approach but.... Work on developing a different mindset and you will get different results with what you are doing. I guarantee it...

My advice, pick a single topic and technique and stick with it until it succeeds or fails. There are too many distractions and shiny objects that take away your focus. If you try to dabble in all of them you won't make enough to survive.

Instead focus on one niche and one method of driving traffic while building a list. Get good at one thing before moving on to the next.
