Is It Still A Must To Build Email List When Promoting Physical Products And CPA Offers?

You might have heard the saying The Money Is In The List.

Though that is true for informational products like normal internet marketing, weight loss, dog training etc, what I like to know is whether it is a still a must to build email list when you are promoting physical products say from Amazon, CJ or CPA offers from Market Health, Neverblue and Peerfly?

While I agree it is still a must to build an email list with autoresponder, do I also have to write short PDF reports to be given away to subscribers with my affiliate link? Say for example Nikon Digital camera from Amazon?

What about CPA offers? The reason I am saying is because most CPA main sites are landing pages with optin boxes especially those from Market Health.

Will appreciate if you guys can show 2 sample affiliate sites on CPA offers so that I know how to market them.

The reason I am saying this is because promoting these two - physical products and CPA offers are still relatively new to me. I so far build 3 sites on iphones, automatic espresso machines and Amazon kindles while I only got approved on Market Health recently.

But this year I will be focusing more on them than digital products I have been marketing from Clickbank.

Think of it this way, once you have a subscriber, you have a potential customer who will pay you over and over as long as they respect you and listen to you. If you skip the list-building step, then you miss out on getting paid over and over.

Also, products, offers and rules change. If you don't have a list, then your business is over if any of those happens.

Put a different way, even Target, Best Buy and Walmart maintain a customer list. They make billions by sending specific offers to exactly matched customers.

Most CPA offers do not accept email marketing for promoting their products. 'cause you can influence the sign ups. alternatively you could direct the list to a blog, that could be acceptable.

If you build list of interested customers in your chosen niche, then it does not matter if it is CPA, Physical products or Digital products.

You can build relationship with them, and give them relevant information, tips and solutions (could be physical product/digital/CPA) to their problems or goals they have.

Also having own list on in your chosen niche helps you generate money on demand, by running special offers, special sales, and getting special JV high commission rates from product owners.

It is always better to have list where you can!
    Wishing you good luck,

I do make money even before I know of affiliate marketing and list building in 2010.

That is using PPC and classified advertising of work-from-home and data entry programs in 2008. Back then, I knew nothing of autoresponder, domain name nor building sites.

It's sending my link straight to offer.

But now with Google constant updates of Panda, Penguin and even Exact Match Domains in recent years, I may focus on those 2 methods combined with SEO.

A list should always be considered a must. Consider this:

      - At some point, you will likely want to offer your own products. If you're building a list now, this will be a simple step... If you have neglected to build a list, the transition will be far more difficult.

      - When you build a list you have the option of offering follow up offers, or cross promoting to earn more money on proven buyers. These follow up sales boost the "life-time value" of each person who takes action - Meaning you make more money per action... The more money you can expect to make per action/buyer, the more you can afford to spend on traffic. The more you can afford to spend on traffic, the less competition you have.

Ever wondered how some people can afford to spend ridiculous amounts on money per click or view when buying traffic? They focus on their back-end. The life-time value of each buyer is high enough to where they don't have to penny pinch when buying traffic.

This should be the ultimate goal of anyone involved in affiliate marketing, CPA, or selling their own product. Maximize this concept, and you'll never worry about traffic again.

Building a list is definitely a must if you consider looking for a good long term relation between your customer with yourself. If you just sell a product without having an email address from your customer, your business will get really slow. Other problem will occur such as the confusion of customer when they want an offer, further information, and update about your product.

If you are too lazy to build a list, at least get the email address from your customer, use the list to promote your second product. But c'mon, how hard it is to build a list.

While I'm sure you made money before using these methods (probably pretty decent money)... Building a list can help you to earn more, and for less effort.

For example, as you said, you used PPC. You pay for every visitor you your website... You're not sure of how interested they are in what you're offering (although good KW research will make a difference).

But if you're sending them from a laser targeted email list, you KNOW (to some extent) their level of interest. Also, it's essentially FREE traffic. You also have a relationship with these people, and they'll trust you, and your recommendations, increasing your conversions.

People buy the SAME stuff over and over again... Weight loss pills, weight loss courses, weight loss diet plans etc... It's CERTAINLY worth recommending them ALL to the same people, rather than PAYING to get new people - And it ain't easy to sell 5 different things to the same person in the same day, where you could spread it out using your email marketing.

On top of that, as you said, SEO and many other methods are changing. You can't put all of your eggs in one basket!

I've just run off a few advantages of email marketing from the top of my head, and other warriors will give you TONS more.

To be honest, you proved yourself that it's NOT essential, because you made money without it before. NO method is essential to make money.

But if you want to get the MOST out of your business, it's silly NOT to use it (especially when you ALREADY know how).

I think it is vitally important even for products. Lets say you were primarily focused on camcorders, and you had a list of 6,000 people who opted in to your camcorder newsletter.

Come Christmas time a retailer offers an exclusive £50 off any camcorder with discount code CAM50... You send your little email - check here to receive your exclusive £50 off any camcorder discount code for retailer xyz, but hurry offer ends . . . . . can only be a good thing, considering you can do that all your life :p
