Pretty typical. Forums need to be moderated. They are a pain in the butt to run. You constantly have to clean up after spammers and ban them and there's a never-ending supply.

Honestly, I have no idea how blackhatters do what they do for the most part, but if it is indexed already, they could be looking for forum footprints to find them.

There are bots out there just looking for forums to spam. No different to how quickly your Wordpress blog will start to get spammed.

As soon as your site is indexed they will find you.

Forums are a massive drain on your resources, both your server resources and time.

You really want to be serious about things and have a good group of moderators if you want a successful forum. I would say they are quite a hard way to make decent money.

    I use "admin-activated" instead of "user-activated" profiles.

Before they can post anything in my forum, they have to respond favorably to an automated welcome email thanking them for joining, including a link to the forum's rules, explaining why they're so important to our members and asking them please to be kind enough to confirm (by replying to the email) that the rules suit them. When they reply, one of my moderators activates their profile.

This easy, mostly automated process gets rid of 100% of "bots" and about 99% of "intending spammers", too.

You cant stop spammers finding your forum, but you can prevent them from posting.
First, disable guest posting and then use email confirmation for new registration.
