I don't know how to create a real business

Well I started creating posts of making a quick buck.
But I know this isn't the answer.

I have experience in affiliate marketing, CPC and building blogs.
In the past year I have focused on Dutch affiliate products. But I didnt make any sale and I was too busy with school so I stopped doing Internet marketing.

Now I want to start a long term business. That can make me a good amount of money every month. I am willing to learn new things so that isn't the problem.

What would you do to create a long term business? and which business would you recommend ?

Hit me up on a pm. What I'd like to share is too long for a post haha, but I'll say this.

You need to focus on building something worthwhile. And something (here's the kicker) you enjoy doing and are proud of. It'll keep you motivated.

  • This is what I posted in a similar thread:

Question: what do you have to offer to the market? What specific solution do you provide and for what specific need/desire?

You know, this is a business after all, so you need to actually provide something the market wants/needs in order to make money...

None of that is a base for a business.

You need to answer the following specific question: What are you offering to your potential customers so they decide to spend their money at your site?

You see, this is a business, and like in any other business you need to offer "something" that someone may want/need. So, what is your "something"?

Yeah it is hard to give you any advice, you have to find your own niche which you will like set up your own goals and go for them.

You should brainstorm for ideas, and if you are looking something for long term make sure you are really in to it.

I think you should start building your own list. I think it's the best way to make some serious money online. It does take some time to set everything up and find your first 500-1000 subscribers but it's a low cost business and the rewards are great!!!

Congratulations on wanting to do something of value and not looking for a fast buck. Don't expect that anyone here has an answer for you because we don't. Don't look to be led. Instead look to learn so you can lead yourself to where you want to be.

Nobody knows what you really want and you might not even know. Figure that out, write down your goals and review them every day. I think it starts off with doing something that really interests you and you're passionate about.

Once you've figured that out just build your site/product around that and fill it up with helpful content. Market the hell out of it (get traffic, build a list etc.) and then put up some ads and reviews of products you know work well.

The most profitable list/niche I have is the one where I send a note out and people write me back personally thanking me for the help.

    The simple answer is...

    building lists.

    The longer answer is...

...it depends on what YOU want to do.

The thinking goes, "Which one DO I pick?".

I'd say, "Depends. Which one do you WANT?"

Tough question to answer. But one which
    only YOU can answer yourself.

    Pick one. Run with it.

    Good luck, my friend...

The only long term strategy is to build a list of customers

Nothing beats having your own list of customers and nothing is more profitable

Well ok, there is one thing, Repeat customers!!

This is the exact model that many other successful businesses follow. Selling to existing customers.

    1. Find a niche where people are spending money - (better if they have a urgent problem)
    2. Build your list. Here is where you can develop a 1 on 1 relationship with your customers - which will in the future grow to trust and like you.
    3. Over deliver valuable infomration to your list every time - and every so often promote products you find are very helpful to them.

    Rinse and repeat

    Everybody says build a list..........

But you could build squidoo lenses and promote physical products without having to sell anything....and it won't cost you a single dime!.......just your time.

I'm not so sure about that...

(especially selling things without selling them?? )

Yeah, I guess my comment was a bit of a head scratcher.....

Learning how to promote products without "selling" the reader was how things started to click for me......at least with physical products any way.

What I do is pick a product that seems to be selling.....do a little keyword and product research......and build a lens by talking to the reader just as if I was writing an email to a friend....and break things up a bit with product links.

Googlers are comfortable with clicking on Amazon links.....and they are also becoming more and more comfortable with Squidoo showing up in the SERPs.

Is this a real business model?....maybe it is for some.....maybe its not for others....or maybe it could be a part of your "business".

Personally I would recommend building a core group of subscribers and building a relationship with them through email.

This will allow you to know what your audience demands from you and what type of products you need to provide.

I'm in the exact same situation, meaning that I just want a real business

Here's how you recognize that you have a real business in these new times:
-You control the product (aka you're not the affiliate)
-You control the customer (aka you need an e-mail list but other options are available too).

If you'd have to rank them then controling the customer is the best thing to have but then you wouldn't be in a real long-term business... you'd be in lead generation so there should be someone else that pays you...

These are the 2 most important parts of any business. Control them and you should make it (I'm still in development mode so I can't say it's a sure thing and you will make it)

You say you have experience as an affiliate marketer. What is the one aspect of affiliate marketing that all affiliates chase?

They are always chasing the product. Affiliates make money by reselling the product.

Own the product and you own a business!

There are so many different ways to make money online that you will want to stay FOCUS on one system at a time. There are many useful warriors in this forum who generously share the methods that they have used to make money online.

I personally agree with Paul Nicholls's point on building own list of customers list as that is the long term approach to having a internet business. Building a list of subscribers and building a relationship with them is the key that make many marketers successful.

Business branding is the way to go, let your business name be heard so many will hear of your company.

Also, try and create something that is needed but not yet made. So the competition is very low, but the buyers are stacked up to the ceiling.

I haven't made one yet, but i have a business model my mindmap and the step i want to take before creating this business. I already have some investors looking at my ideas and once i launch my site i may already have a few investors.

I think most people here say building lists and they are right. You can build a list in pretty much any niche though, so it really goes to what you like? Evergreen as mentioned here is good because while there is competition it is good because it means people are making money.
I know that is cliche but it is true. So I would take a step back look at what you have an interest in and then apply the same idea in terms of building a list.

Hit me up in a PM and I'll help you. I've created businesses outside of the internet marketing world.

To create a business you need to leverage your time. Meaning...you have to get other people working for you. If you can't afford it in the beginning, there are still ways to leverage time but you must get to the point of hiring others ASAP.

what would i do? i would kill to have a long term business. being in business is not that easy, its too risky, like 50 percent success, 50 percent failure. its up to you if you're good at PR, i think thats what matters most. and of course the quality of your business.

Many have been successful in creating real businesses with affiliate marketing. No products to create, just review, write content, promote. You can also build a list at the same time and then promote more affiliate products to your list.

Evergreen niches is the way to go for a long term business.
