Does article marketing still work?

If so, how many do you publish the article to? Do different article directories accept the same article?

Not an answer to your question but what I will say below might change the way you think about articles.

I quit submitting articles to directories some time ago. I thought, instead of populating the directories, why not populate my own websites? Most article directories come and go, even the most popular ones are not 100% certain to be around in a couple of years. They change their terms etc. as they wish and they own your content and they can take it down whenever they want for any reason.

I also believe that most article directories are getting more traffic from the authors than the readers which makes it a nonviable business model for them.

So, why not forget about article directories which are nothing but a collection of low quality articles that you would barely take your time to read and start focusing on growing your own websites?

That's my thinking as well. I don't know if the time or money is well spent writing for article directories. Also, you just don't put the same effort in these articles as you would on your own site. I use to do article marketing a few years back but decided it wasn't really worth it in the end. Most of these articles get posted on junk sites.

I have gotten several thousand page views in my account from the 20 or so articles I have published, but some of these will have been from people looking to republish the articles.

Yes, it still works, but the procedures have changed. Directories or syndication sites lost their value, and guest blogging is in.

Meh... Too many blogs trying to demand "unique" content these days,
so I don't even bother trying to sort through them, I just ignore all blogs.

There's no point in submitting an article to more than one article directory (or two at the maximum).

To submit to more than that is a complete misunderstanding of how article directories work, and an attempt to use them for a purpose they can't fulfil (and were never intended to!): http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post5068872

You're not actually asking about "article marketing" here, Anton.

You're asking about "article directory marketing". They're two very different things.

The answer happens to be "yes", they do. But that doesn't matter, because you won't gain anything from using more than one, anyway.

There's no point in trying to use article directories for their own backlinks. That isn't how they work.

There's also no point in trying to use them for their own traffic, and that would actually be counterproductive and can even do you harm instead of good: for all the reasons explained in this post, no article marketer wants to get potential customer traffic coming to their own site from an article directory. That's just a fundamental misunderstanding of what article directories are for and what benefits they're capable of producing.
