Newbie at a crossroads.

Hi guys and girls.

I'll try not to bore you but do bear with me.

The last year has been an absolute nightmare and I was looking to take my mind out of where it's was and give me a break.
The story of the issue will be relived and up dated on my blog page on my site.

Long story short I decided to build a website from scratch. Ive not done it before and have to say I'm really enjoying.

The main idea behind my site is that it targets a specific audience who I don't think are pretty poorly catered for. I have lots of rss news pages, video pages (admittedly grafted off YouTube), life style pages, help and advice links, a directory(not built yet) an amazon affiliate shop,a page for vendor discounts that will be locked for subscribers, and much more. ..... I went a bit OTT HAHA

Whilst I'm building I'm joining affiliate sites in readiness for lots of banner ads and linking.

The cross roads I'm at is that whilst I've been having fun I've realised the following:
1.Whilst I believe there to be a need for an "all in one site" for the group I'm targeting there's no key words to back this belief. Surely seo is key to sites? I just can't see the point as the amount of searches done overall. Can I site be a success without google et al?
2.I have no knowledge of how to use social media etc and have a current budget of £0 for paying for learning etc.

I don't want to bin the site as I believe in the concept. I just can't find the info I need without paying for it or getting smashed for emails etc.

Any of you kind soles fancy parting with a bit of advice?

If you meant "free" traffic from search engines - NO. It is not key. It's a trap they sold you.

Absolutely! Think paid traffic, joint ventures (JV), affiliates and lots of other methods.

Paid traffic gotta wait for some cash I am trying to start up with £0 and go from there as I get more confident.
Traffic generation is an absolute minefield for me

You can, and actually should, try to get free traffic without google. At least to start. By start, I mean wait until you earn net $3000 per month or more before trying SEO and Google. As Istan said, SEO is not free as people think it is. At least it’s not when you go out of your way to make it happen.

Some of the more popular free, non-seo traffic methods may be forum marketing, online giveaways, commenting on other people’s blogs, and to an extent, youtube and article marketing. Lots of other free methods.

The biggest tips in your case:
        - focus your efforts on building your list and communicating with them
        - perseverance

What does your site look like?

Your problem is: you get stuck with the first word in a sentence and not able to think further

You said there are websites in that niche. Contact their owners and suggest a link exchange. If you have a special product for THEIR audience (always think what is in it for them!) offer a generous affiliate commission in exchange for driving traffic to your site. If they buy > build a list of buyers.

Then there is creating videos and putting them on YT.

Having a link to your site in the sig file.

        -----------------------
On the other hand... knowing that I made this mistake many years ago: I was convinced (I am even today) there was a need for a certain product/website for a certain demographics/target group. Which is true...
Except, nobody wants to buy it, they don't want to admit the need!

Just trying to explain that needs and the wants sometimes don't overlap.

Do you have $37 to spare?

Get yourself a warrior forum membership and get yourself into the private war room. The vast amount of information there, which can help you and your website out is simply, out of this world.

If you need some free traffic to start you off think about solo ad exchanges. A solo ad is basically an email that someone sends to their subscriber list, advertising your site or product. ListJumper is one that I use and I get around 5 new subscribers with every mail I send out. It's free and easy to use. Just an idea. Once you've made a little money you can move on to more high quality solo ads. If you google 'solo ads', you'll get loads of ideas.
