Great Marketing Campaign From An Interesting Source... Bing
* Global Search Volume - 17.6 billion searches
* Google - 66.7 percent - 11.8 billion searches
* Bing - 16.3 percent - 2.9 billion searches
* Yahoo - 12.2 percent - 2.2 billion searches
* Ask - 3 percent - 543 million searches
* AOL - 1.8 percent - 310 million searches
The search engine wars are raging, and although Bing has basically doubled its market share since it went live a few years back, it is still fighting an uphill battle trying to overcome Google for search volume.
I just saw a new commercial on tv a few minutes ago for Bing's new marketing campaign.
In the commercial, they pointed to their new website called, "Bing It On", where you can test Bing's search results directly against Google's search results.
The way it works is that they ask you to search 5 different queries, and they compare the results for those queries side-by-side, with the same CSS code to make the search results look the same.
They ask you to rate which of the two search results looks better to you, then after five searches, they show you a breakdown of which of the two search engines you felt gave you the best results.
There is nothing like comparing apples-to-apples to figure out which search engine you like the best.
With this strategy, I bet that if they can get people to use this new website, they might be able to shave off a few more percentage points in market share.
