A Query Regarding Backlinks - Can Anyone Please Advise ?

Hi all,

I hope this isn't a stupid question.

If I want to promote a website by using backlinks, is it
better to add my link to someone else's sites, or to put
up a load of bogs using free articles and then adding my
link to them ?

I understand that linking to someone else's blog can be
beneficial if it's got a high ranking, but there's only
limited number to use. Many bloggers don't like it when
I try and add my link to them.

    Hi John,

    When wanting back links from blogs its very important that you have something to say about their post... no body will like a back link from someone who just says "i agree, great post" or similar.
    You need to bring something to the discussion, you can also disagree, but have a reason why and provide an alternative solution. Bloggers love this and will be more than happy to have a debate, because this will bring more people to into the fray.

    Dont disregard articles either as this is an amazing way to get back links. All of the big guys use them, and why wouldnt you, you can post article after article with links back to your site, and if they are good articles and are picked up by ezine publishers this can be a great asset.

    Back linking is an easy thing to do, but you have to speand a little bit of time doing iy. Try out forums, groups, articles, blog comments, directories.

    It depends on the niche. If it's IM you're likely to come across a lot of savvy boggers, but then again they probably know what you're doing and why and they have done it themselves and so will be more forgiving. I know I've become that way myself and let a lot more linkback comments in than I used to. Besides, having a larger number of comments on each post adds credibility. Do try to contribute something though. It takes just as much effort to post a useful comment as it does to just post a link.

    Back Links can be generated in articles, and then the articles can be submitted to RSS sites which will multiply the number of links. You can create links by making comments in other people's blogs, but you better make sure that the blog is related to your subject, and that your comment is relevant.

    All of us have had our blogs inundated with SPAM comments and it is infuriating.
    I've never understood the mentality of putting links for Viagra into a blog on old time radio shows. It's not only rude, it's stupid.

    Whoa. Let me get off my soap box. Submit your article to an article feed site, to an RSS feed site and to a social feed site. You will get lots of healthy back links.

    Do everything you can to diversify your link portfolio. That's what I do. Free sites, articles social bookmarking, everything you can.

    You need backlinks from high quality high trust websites. Creating a bunch of crappy blogs just to get links won't do you a thing. They'll have have a low trust rank and a low page rank.

        This works for me. I diversify my backlinks that way if one of the methods gets google slapped (like squidoo did) I'm not penalized as much.

        I choose a keyword phrase, that phrase is in the meta title of the website page/blogpost, it's also in the first header and I use it twice in the content. The content is original. I bookmark the page through several bookmarking sites.

        I write 5 articles using the keyword phrase once in the title and twice in the article. I link the keyword phrase to my website page/blog in the author bio and submit 1 article every day to ezinearticles and through articlemarketer.com

        The articles are used as squidoo pages and as blog posts as well.
