Opt-in landing page advice

Hi everyone,

New registrant, but have been a big reader of the forum for a long time. Decided to finally register to see if I can get some help with my opt-in page which is failing to convert.

At the moment I am driving traffic with Adf.ly, 7Search, Clicksor and Media Traffic which has so far delivered over 3,000 visits and just 1 opt-in. The first 1,500 or so visits went to the first version and the next batch went to the second version. (I also tried a campaign with Max Visits but the traffic was no good.)

The first version is mainly going to be linked to from my web site when it is fully up and running and third party blog posts. It is primarily the second version of the page which I will continue to drive traffic to and which I need help with.

A bit of basic info about me, I'm a developer with several years experience with building web sites, databases, etc. I am pretty new to IM, I have dabbled with Google PPC so I know the basics of picking keywords, setting bids, etc. I do struggle with copywriting so I am thinking that this could be the problem with my page.

I also have prosper202 setup and tracking all of the above campaigns.

Any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

    I'd choose /top-dog-training-blunders-s1.

For a better conversion you can have only email address (without the name).

3,000 visits is a really low amount for testing - set up google experiments and drive some real volume to see how they perform after a week or two

I would choose the first landing page.

    3,000 visits, 1 opt-in. The opt-in rate is low.

Adf.ly never works for me and may be the reason for low opt-in rate.

Your opt in rate is incredibly low. It could be due to poor traffic. Especially with those traffic sources. They can convert, but it takes time to optimize and weed out the bad referrers.

Yeah, I agree with Jeffrey....Your opt-in rate is real low, but the traffic sources are more volume and little quality. Your opt-ins should be anywhere from 20%-30% and a conversion rate of at least 1-3% Keep testing

Firstly forget about ad fly it's a complete waste of time

Start with some free traffic so you get used to how things work and getting your funnel set up correctly then once you know what you're doing you can then perhaps try some cheap paid traffic methods

A bench mark opt in conversion I always tell people to go for is around 30% as a bare minimum

Remember it's not always about getting the highest opt in conversion but the most lazer targeted opt ins which results in paying customers but that being said you still want an opt in rate of around 30% and not really any lower

A squeeze page that converts converts at just 30% could easily out perform squeeze page that converted at 75% because the squeeze page that converts at just 30% could be generating much more targeted subscribers

Sounds like a poor traffic issue. Ad.fly and others is usually pretty bad, but I do have a few suggestions.

    1. Just ask them for an email instead of both name and email. That usually helps.

    2. Find a solo ad provider in the dog training niche and send an email about your offer. I know that you would get more than 1 subscriber that way.

Thanks for all the advice so far, greatly appreciated!

I have setup a new form and removed the name field from it, I am using Get Response and the way they set it out makes it appear that you can't remove it which is why it was there in the first place. But after some digging I have found out how to do it.

trafficmasters... how much traffic would you say is a good amount to run on an experiment. This feature of GA is new to me, but I've just read a decent article on how to set it up and run one so I'm going to give it a go. What would you say, a 100k over two weeks? I'm happy to spend on this as I'm tired of developing for others to make them money instead of myself

paul... Ok, I'll drop adf.ly when the current campaign expires. Although it was the one that provided the single opt-in. I do have some free traffic from a Squidoo lens and a couple of blog posts but they were only trickling in which is why I decided to try some paid sources.

Not so new... I did look into solo's but practically everyone I looked at was focused on IM and making money so I decided not to pursue this avenue. Unless someone knows of a source where you can find more niche related solos I don't think this will work for my campaign.

Alexa, I did quite a bit of research here about these services, obviously there were mixed reviews but of the ones I researched these seemed to have the better opinions out there or rather, more people who reported some degree of success with them. (Except Max Visits, I knew it would be rubbish but needed to test it to prove it to myself).
