I offer something to them what they are ready to pay for. Make a promising squeeze page with some great graphics and buy a solo ad.

This just works fine for me.

Every next step you take is essentially important, such as making squeeze page, buy some ad, etc. But there is one thing you should worry most, which is Copy-writing. This is a skill that every Internet Marketers need and utilize the most. You can use logic approach, which basically persuade your viewer by giving them a view of statistic about the successful record of your product. Keep learning this skill, keep growing, and see your list getting bigger each day. Good luck mate!

there are many great list building tactics to use but if I had to pick a free one than i would have to
    say my IM blog

Blogs are great as long as you use them properly

Your blog is something which you completely own the rights to and over time your traffic will begin to increase as long as you're adding the right type of content

The key to having a blog that generates some good traffic for free is creating content which people will either want to come back themselves to refer to it or it was that good that they want to tell others about it

have you ever come across a blog post with so much useful information that you just had to share it?

well this is link bait at it's best

create good enough content and you won't ever have to worry about trying to generate traffic ever again to your blog

my blog for me is the easiest free traffic method to build my list but you do of course need to put the work in in the first place :-)

Solo ads works great for me, I use them because its really easy to get fast traffic that way... and the people are usually already interested in what you have to offer them

Solo Ads to a free offer works really well, but it's important that you have a proper funnel set up that converts.

Take the time to really understand the people in the niche you are targeting. Identify what problems they need fixes for, and become familiar with the language they use.

This will enable you to craft messages that really resonate with your audience, which will in turn significantly increase your visitor-to-subscriber conversion rate.

Obviously, this knowledge isn't used simply to get people onto your list. It's used on an ongoing basis in the emails you send to them, where you convert subscribers into buyers.

      Good Luck.

Mine is to create content that people will want to use and share. It's even better if you can create some kind of a tool that people will KEEP using.

For example, I created a Kindle Royalty Calculator page on my website and many authors bookmark, share, and come back to that page often because it's something that they use more than once and it's very helpful.

I don't require an optin in my example above but you could easily use this strategy and require the optin first. Just create a tool or content that is hosted on your site that people will keep coming back to and get them to optin to have access to it.

    Two.

    #1. Copywriting.

One of the best decisions I've made was learn to
    persuade.

    #2. Testing & Tracking

It takes the emotions out the picture and focuses
on improving results no matter what the result.

Focus on those two and you can't help but make
    money building a list.

      Exactly this ^^

What has always worked astoundingly well for me for many years now is to pull in warmed-up traffic from visitors of other websites, blogs, ezines, and offline publications. When targeted prospects read my content published in these outlets, the relationship-building process actually begins long before they even see my offers or websites. The process continues seamlessly with a nominal purchase, wherein buyers are incentivized to opt-in for relevant niche information, tips, free bonuses, and incrementally higher end product promotions.

I don't like to build my business around a blog.

The simple reason is generally speaking, blogs attract the wrong type of audience... FREEBIE SEEKERS.

Just hearing that word makes my sick to my stomach.

People that read blogs are used to receiving valuable information for free.

So when you actually ask for money for information, it's a much harder sell.

With a blog, you're essentially training them (post after post) that your goods are free.

You need to build your list around buyers.

Think about - and test - building lists from prominently incentivized opt-ins on a content-rich landing page of a content-rich site, not from squeeze pages. Don't test it by measuring the numbers of people who opt in! Test it by measuring the money you earn from each list over a 6-month period.

      Solo ads and my blog.

Leads that come from my blog are usually more responsive and active.

but I found that directing solo ad leads to my blog through follow ups
increases trust and open rates dramatically.

Thank you Alexa for a very informative post. Having a rich content site would help build a better and long lasting relationship with your subscribers as they learn more about their interested niches from your site and in turn, you gain their trust as someone who is very knowledgeable in that niche. The subscribers would be more than willing to listen to your advice and buy products that you recommend.

However, I guess most people would probably set up a squeeze page with a free gift to get subscribers as that is much much easier than setting up an authority site with rich content. Furthermore, some solo ads can be only purchased if your link is sent to a squeeze page. Many people get subscribers through solo ads.

My conclusion is that having a rich content authority site would lead to much higher opt-in rate than a simple squeeze page. If you cannot create a rich content authority site but still wants to build your list, the next best alternative would be setting up a simple 1 page squeeze page with a free gift and buying solo ads.

I'm a big fan of solo ads. I recently paid $40 for 125 unique clicks. The seller over delivered on clicks and I ended up getting 72 opt ins and one OTO sale of $9.99. Works for me. The opt ins are responsive and my open and click rate is great.

Doesn't matter to me for the traffic source.
It just needs to be targeted traffic (very targeted).

I send it to a free gift squeeze page with a free trail bonus to my membership. My thank you page is my landing page for the membership.

I build my list 100% from buyers.

I have found them to be the most successful people to pitch to with my offers and keep updated with regular discounts.

I sell them cheap products and keep them happy. Buyers will 9 times out of 10 buy again.

I have not had much success with solo ads but giving away freebies also works well

Put the most amazing content in the world behind one quick and easy hurdle.

Let people make the decision to jump over that hurdle (opt-in), and then you win on two levels.

    Testing...

I think that the reasons should be obvious, but I'll break it down a bit anyway...

Let's say I only ever put in the effort (or investment) to drive 100 visitors each day, and I know that about 1 in 15 new subscribers will buy my OTO (one time offer) of $12.

If my opt in rate is 30%, I'm only gonna earn an average of 2 sales each day. That's $720 per month.

If I test for a week, and get the conversions up to 45%, I'm gonna be averaging 3 sales / day. That's $1080 per month.

For a week's work, I'm earning an extra $360 per month, or $4320 per year. And after that week's effort, I can just go back to being my lazy self, and that little bit of work will continue to pay off.

Now, if I were to do some OTO testing too, and get my OTO conversions down to 1 in 10, I'd start generating an average of 4.5 sales daily, which is $1620 per month...

That's $900 more than the original stats (without testing). That's $10,800 extra income per year.

If you don't test, you're leaving serious cash on the table...
