Hello Warriors,

I am curious to ask what niches you guys advise for newbies ( like me and other warriors ) to go into? Such as the evergreen niches: Health, Weight loss?

Whatever you have any expertise in. That makes it a lot easier to create specific, valuable content to induce someone to do whatever you want them to do.

Weight loss in my eyes is very oversaturated. I suggest that you go into a niche that you like and know a lot about so you are able to write some quality content for the site. Best of luck to you.

I think most newbies often find themselves in the internet marketing niche because it's what they've studied so much before putting that knowledge into practice. It's not the best place to go in my opinion.

I'd say make a site about something you're passionate about that has things related to it that you can also sell. People sense and feel that passion you have and it's much easier to build a large, authority, and long lasting site if it is about something you care about the topic. It will not feel like work!

So that's my recommendation to you. Start with your passion rather than something that you have to make yourself do every day.

almost any niche is good to start with besides weight loss and internet marketing there are so many people promoting them that it's getting impossible to make any decent money with them.

I think as a complete newbie you should probably avoid the "big" niches like wieght loss, internet marketing, dating, etc. Instead come up with something you have a lot of knowledge about.....if you don't have any knowledge.....come up with something that you like enough to want to study and learn about. If you come up with a very specific niche, then your viewers will be highly targeted which will help with your conversions.

For example, I was a softball player growing up and in college. If I wanted to have a softball site instead of forming my site just around softball in general, I could create a site just about hitting. Could even promote some bats through amazon, and maybe a hitting guide from clickbank. Hey, maybe I should get started!

But I am a newbie myself, so take my advice for what it is worth!

    Not for me.

Trying to identify "a niche in which people are already spending tons of money" sounds to me like a recipe for finding the most competitive and difficult niches in which most of your potential customers will perhaps already be on many other marketers' lists, and will already know many of the leading products, too? Those are niches I prefer to avoid.

Many of the niches in which the most money changes hands, most regularly, may be the ones in which it's going to be hardest for me to make money. You have to decide for yourself whether that's going to be true for you. But the closer you are to being a newbie, I'd say, the more likely it is to be true?

"Saturation" isn't actually relevant at all and probably doesn't even exist, anyway. And it's not necessarily a mistake to focus on competitive niches and products, but it's typically a big mistake to focus on competitive marketing methods within them.

My experience of which is the most profitable niche, and in which niche it's easiest for me to make a sale (and those are two completely different niches, of course) won't help you in any way. What matters to you (or should) is which is going to be a reasonably profitable niche for you.

Tell us more about the kind of business model you want to use, what your existing skill-set and experience are, and people will be able to offer you far more constructive and positive answers.

I'm not trying to be pedantic for the sake of it. It's just that you're unlikely to learn much that's truly helpful to you, the way you're asking about it at the moment. I'm happy to offer suggestions that might help you, but I need to know more first. And I'd even go so far as to say that you might possibly even want to be a little wary of replies from others who throw out quick suggestions without asking for any more information first?!).

Depends where your talent lies really. If you're good at marketing you can try for one of the big ones like Weight Loss or IM, there's still money to be made and it can be done if you can think outside the box in terms of promotion.

If you're a half decent writer and you have a specialist interest you think you can exploit, then go down the writing-about-what-you-know route as mentioned above.

Hard to say man, I'd pick something you're passionate about so if you have an interest in sport maybe try that route, for your first sites i'd recommend trying to brainstorm niches that appeal to you and give you interest. That way you'll spend more time on your sites and you won't get bored

I've been told you have to follow the money. Find profitable niches where money is being spent. My expertise is in computers, but i have to specify or dig deeper into the computer niche to find a micro niche and see if its profitable. I don't mind learning something new either im not that picky when it comes to picking niches i dont know about.

There's an incredible amount of work you're going to be putting into whatever niche you choose. There's a good chance you're not going to see results for a LONG stretch of time.

Most people can't hack getting through that time because they don't love the niche they're in.

There's enough BS you have to get through with internet marketing, so in the beginning days, you're only saving grace is the fact that you are really interested in the topic your writing about.

      • Just some random thoughts...

Weight Loss? Dating? Are those even considered niches? Those seem more like large markets to me.

"Vegetarian weight loss diets for women" or "Dating for people suffering from social anxiety"...those are niches.

If you are going to tackle "weight loss" or "dating", your chances for success are slim, IMO

If you start with something like vegetarian diets, then when you gain some traction and learn about the market (actually learn by doing, not by just reading what others say) then you can take your new found knowledge and tackle paleo diets, low carb diets, then start getting into exercise stuff like Crossfit, P90x, and before you know it, you're rolling...

        Just my humble opinion...

These are recommended both to go into and to avoid for similar reasons. They are huge markets with big competition.

The good is they are huge markets so, despite the competition, even a very small slice will bring a decent return.

The caveat is there is huge competition so it takes some thought on how you approach entering the niche.

For that you need a USP (Unique Selling Proposition) to help distinguish yourself in the market.

This is where the question "What interests you?" comes in.

I don't think "What interests you" should be the question you ask to find a niche. After all, if you are interested in collecting belly button lint, that may not be a great niche to try and make money in.

But if you use what interests you to find a USP then maybe "How collecting belly button lint helped me lose 50 lbs" (it was easier to find and collect?) could give you a toe hold in the "Lose Weight Niche" that you can then use to get a foot in the door.

So I say look at the big money niches: Health, Wealth and Lifestyle, then look at what interests you and ask yourself: How can I use what interests me to find a USP in one of those big niches?

Which is much different than: What interests me that would make a good niche?

Don't get hung up on the niche, just do the hard work in whichever you choose. There is SO MUCH information out there to help with any for them. I'm in Online Marketing and I've been told conflicting information by various sources but so far it's going great. I wouldn't know WHERE to start with Health or Sport so I'm not going to touch them with a ten foot barge pole but the truth is there is money to be found in all of them.

Where's this information that says ANY of these areas are saturated? I'd like to read it. :-)

From what I've read lately on this forum, there are only a few niches to choose from"
          • Weight loss
          • Fitness/bodybuilding
          • IM/MMO
          • Forex
          • Dating
          • Pickup Artist
You might think that things like dog training, golf and flyfishing would be popular, since so many gooroos use them as examples, but they seem to have fallen out of favor...

[By the way, that bulge on the side of my face is my tongue planted deeply in my cheek...]

You want to look for markets to serve, not "niches". You want a market with a problem or desire, money and motivation to spend it on solving that problem or obtaining that desire, and a way to effectively reach them with an offer they find more valuable than keeping their money in their pockets.

Which opens up thousands of possibilities. Pick one and run with it.

The first question to think about when starting an internet marketing business is, what audience will you be targeting?

You need to find a niche (a specific product aimed at a specific market) that has a high demand and low supply. With any marketing business, it is important to understand your competition as well as your prospective consumers. Anytime the supply is low and the demand is high, you enhance your profitability. Take your time and do as much research as you can to find a niche that you are not only familiar with, but one that has a large audience as well.

Be as specific as possible when choosing your marketing niche as this helps drive up profitability and becomes very important when you begin marketing. This will also be helpful when you need to focus on keywords for your niche to help bring traffic to your website from search engines.

There are tools that are available that can help you choose your marketing niche. One great tool I recommend using to find a marketing niche is Google Keyword. I highly suggest taking your time with this step and not rush it.

Although you may be eager to get started, this is the foundation of your business and with any foundation you need strength as it sets the building blocks to your success.

I guess I focus on evergreen niches such as health and relationships but they are so broad as not to be meaningful in terms of helping you. Many of my sites in those niches are so narrowly focused that I do not have a lot of competition as a general site would. You can drill down into certain niches so far that you can miss the herd.

Not every site I have is in an evergreen niche I guess but I guess I focus on sites that will see evergreen traffic if that makes sense - if it has to be in the dating niche then so be it - though I do not really like that niche anymore.
I really focus on products that I think I can promote to markets that have a problem or need and I lot of those products are in those niches. I always start with the products if I am looking to build a money making site.

Yeah I have blogs that I use to not make money such as one that has to do with movies I hate and I do that for fun. For money making sites I do not have to love a niche to find products I think will sell though there are some niches I do avoid such as the survival niche cause I really have no interest in it.

These sites are not a hobby for me so I do not try to say I am only going to have a blog on baseball because I like baseball. I want sites that I can develop around promoting products and building a list.

The basics are pretty simple really...

You go into markets and niches where you'll find people who are desperate for a solution to something.

I call them 'desperate buyers' and they are always so much easier to sell to, because there's very little buyer resistance if you can provide the solution they want.

When I first started in the crazy business, I followed what all the so called 'expert' IM'ers was saying. And that was........find your passion.....find what you love to do...make a product based around your passion/s and you can't miss.

Well, that turned out to be a total crock for me.The reality was that there was no money making potential in markets and niches related to my 'passions'. So I made zip!

It wasn't until the penny dropped and I started seeking out markets where I could hone in on desperate buyers, that I really started to make money.

        Yeah this.

There's no such thing as market saturation. You just have to be better than someone that is currently making money from the niche and you will take their share.

Shoot for 0.01% of the big niches, not 90% of a micro-niche that gives you no long-term potential.

For a beginner it is best to get into a niche that you are passionate about and not very competitive. Healthy, MMO, Dating - are all very competitive.

Now not to say you can't do well in them - just when you are starting out, it is better to start where there is less competition.

You can easily find these niches from using the Google keyword tool. If it has a search volume of 3,000 per month or more - you know you found a great niche.

Don't rush thing, pick up your own pace, one thing for sure before selecting a niche, choose one thing that you have passion in it. When you choose something only for its prospect, it will tire you eventually. The more specific your niche, the less competition you get, and you will get quality traffic from very specific needs of people.

I've always found this question a bit of a head scratcher, because the answer really is it all depends on the newbie.

I would never expect another person to dive into the niches I'm involved in unless I knew what their passions were, what and how their are motivated, what their work ethic was like, what skillsets they already possessed, if they had a positive attitude, etc.

At least once a day a new weight loss millionaire is created in the USA, now does that mean a newbie should dive into that market? Well, most people would probably say an emphatic "NO!" because it's uber-competitive and it takes some serious marketing savvy to really make it in something like that.

Now, that doesn't mean there aren't newbs that don't succeed in that niche because there are, but I contend those are far and few between.

Before even looking into a niche, make sure you've got a good grasp of the marketing fundamentals such as copywriting, the psychology of what makes people buy, how to make compelling offers (tied in with copy writing), how to set up effective marketing campaigns, understanding publicty, how to recruit affiliates and/or JV partners, how to price your product if that's your thing, and so on and so forth.

There are thousands of profitable niches out there ranging from selling ant farms to high end x-ray machines.

Here's a simple exercise to do after you've studied the marketing basics:

    1. Write down 10 wants that people have.

    Examples:

    People want.........better relationships
    People want.........better sex
    People want.........to get high
People want.........to improve their golf game
People want.........to cure that damn ringing in their ears
People want.........to get rid of migranes
People want.........their skin to look better
People want.........their little league team to play better
People want.........to make their own jewelry
People want.........their children to listen to them
    People want.........to type faster
    People want.........read faster
People want.........to improve their jump shot
People want.........to learn more about travel destinations
People want.........to save money on things they buy
    People want.........get rid of wrinkles
    People want.........improve their sexual stamina
People want.........buy adults toys without any embarassment

    2. Perform some cursory market research in all ten. Then pick your top 2 or 3.

    3. Peform deeper market research, including long tail keyword reseach, product mix examination, price point research, demographic analysis, etc.

    4. Create a basic business plan including a list of potential JV partners, who the top 3 to 5 competitors are and their product offerings...etc.

    5. Join the top 3 to 5 competitors lists if they have them.

    6. Order the top 3 competitor's products / services / offerings to study their ecommerce platform, the buyer's experience, etc.

    7. Make notes on how they monetize their businesses.

    8. Make notes on what distribution channels they use to reach their audience. Oftentimes you can compete simply by using the distribution channels they are NOT using.

Think of niches as needs and wants. Then find a product / service / offer mix that will satisfy those needs and wants.

I've been at this a long time, consulting with both individual marketers and large companies and I see many of them diving into markets without knowing what they are getting into first.

    Learn the basics FIRST...

    Then dive into niche research.

By just doing this ONE thing differently you'll have boosted your chances of making money by at least a factor of 3.

Write about a topic you know well. I'm a keen photographer so I started my first blog on DSLR cameras and then moved on from there.

Now I write excellent copy and can sell pretty much anything.

If you want to know the biggest niches then I would say my top #3 (in terms of demand and traffic) are:

    1. Make Money Online
    2. Weight Loss
    3. Self-Improvement i.e. getting rid of zits, pimples, acne etc.

    Four niches:
    1. Making Money Online
    2. Relationship
    3. Forex
    4. Self-improvement

You can go to other niches, such as gambling or Adult niches if you are fine with them.

These are the niches where the money are.

I am not so sure that we should be targeting niches that you are passionate about. There might not be a market for that.
