Does icontact really allow people to do this?

I was surprised to get another email from someone I had unsubscribed from, but I am seeing this more - more from people pretending to be someone else, more from what I think are the real people, but they ignore unsubscribes.

So I decided to unsubscribe again. This is what I see:

Keep me subscribed to the following selected lists:
Non-Openers from September 12 to September 26 Subscribed
WSO ****** Unsubscribed

Or this choice: Unsubscribe me from all of my current email lists.

This sender can still add you to future email lists.

Or this choice:Never email me again.

Or this choice: Check the box to never receive email from this sender.

While I am sure you already know this, I'll say it for those who may not; always use a secondary email for opt-ins!

I signed up to a traffic exchange website when I first started, and received over 250-300 email offers a day as a result. It sucked. I prioritized the emails that I wanted, and NEVER opened, or unsubscribed from all the others,

Naturally, this was before the new SPAM act. I still receive bogus emails from lists I know for a fact I NEVER joined, but I just junk em an report em.

I agree, it does get upsetting and it's not necessarily iContact condoning this behavior, its list owners putting you on illegal lists... or at least I'd bet as much, because I see it in my email accounts all the time. Drop one, and another unknown email appears.

PS- I am on 5 peoples email lists, the rest are pretty much mysterious wanna be's...that I'll NEVER buy from
PSS- If I see one more bogus email to ____Matrix video, I swear you'll here me cussing over seas, lol
    Good Luck

Jeannie, I have had the same problem! I took some time this morning and went in and tried to unsubscribe. One of my junk emails, said I subscribed THIS MORNING!

Now I find the more I try to unsubscribe, the more my junk box fills up! One of these little creatures emailed me 5 times yesterday! Who's teaching these people to do this?

I feel for you! Good luck with your unsubs!

report them as SPAM, if they ever emailed you again, this makes me crazy as it happens to me all the time.

  • It's a never-ending stream of spam, even for lists I know that I've never signed up for. The main culprits seem to be iContact and imnicamail - I'm on so many lists there that I NEVER subscribed to and even after unsubscribing more spam arrives. Contacted the complaints department and requested that my email addresses be removed from their databases, to be honest I expected them to say that they could not do that - after all I could be asking for anyones email address to be removed (I sent in a list of about 10 emails). Surprisingly they said 'No Problem'. the addresses will be removed.

Spam slowed down for about a week, never dried up completely, but is now back to a steady daily stream. Back to the drawing board.

Aweber and GetResponse seem to have their act together and there's no spam to speak of coming from those services.

this is going to continue to be a problem with those two, as I suspect they will never do anything about it, since this is one benefit from spammers using their services, as opposed to aweber or get response. The only thing you can do is what was mentioned, continue to contact their complaint departments and lodge complaints on them.

Yeah, that would be because you need to unsubscribe from all their lists.

You see more of people pretending the e-mail is from a bank, or paypal, or some undisclosed support department, a commission payment, a fake facebook friend request. They get unsubscribed immediately, or marked as spam.
