How long did it take you to hit the $1K a month mark?

Hi guys, I know variations of this question have been asked time and time again, but I want to beat a dead horse. I recently switched countries again (which always means a slight upset in my working-on-my-sites mode) so I'm looking for both an excuse to procrastinate and some...motivation. It's nice to see how other people progressed on their own IM journeys, you know?

I have several sites up and running and they are slowly but surely making more money each month...but I still haven't hit the $1K mark.
I'm curious if there's a ceiling and whether it is something that can be broken with
1. more work
2. more time
So...how long did it take (how many weeks, months, years) to hit the $1K a month mark? With how many websites?

Appreciate the answers in advance!

If you had to start from fresh, what would you do differently to earn the money faster?
      That question is to everyone

That's really awesome! Most of my income is coming from the first 2 sites I started last year and it still hasn't hit the $1K a month mark yet...
How many hours per week did you work on those sites throughout the year? I know it's probably the quality of the work that matters more, but I'd still love to get a gauge...

Try to buy an existing website and add your adsense in it. It can be helpful to you

It took me about a year before I consistently made at least a thousand from month to month. I had a handful of thousand dollar months before that, but they weren't consistent. It probably would have been faster, but I went back to school and got my Bachelor's in IT Programming so I'd have something to fall back on if this whole IM thing doesn't work out.

I start with IM 8 years ago but I have good job on an oil rig so did not pay much attention on that. Now, after 8 years I start to make 3k+ daily on CPA and affiliate offers.
From my point of view you really don't need to own websites to make it. All depends on you and what method and way of make oney you will use.
Now all of my methods are automated so have a lot's of time to explore other things and this is great. Last what I did is start to make more than $100 daily on facebook without any investment. All what I do iis one simple application pointing to my CPA offer and thats it.
Also you can work hard 100 years and never get 1k. This is all individual and not everyone can hit that goal.

That's pretty fantastic! Did all of the income come from just one site or a collection of sites?

Honestly, I don't remember - I think all of a sudden when I found what worked for me - I went from a few hundred a MONTH to a few hundred a DAY. In fact, I remember - I hit $300 one day, then $500 MORE the next day after. From there, it was just uphill

Honestly, it can take time - it can also be really easy, just don't look for a "push button solution", plan on doing niche research, keyword research and actually doing some work.

As long as you put more effort and more time in the right places it will speed up your journey; IM is no different to anything else in that respect!

Forget about what other people have done and set yourself realistic, non-monetary goals. They might be something like: "write two unique blog posts a day" or "test a CPA offer with a certain traffic source for a week". Setting targets based on earnings per month, per day etc. don't work because you're focusing on the end output rather than the method which will get you there.

Hope this helps, and best if luck.

Way to many variables at play, all depends on previous knowledge and current skill-set plus your capital resources. Someone who has $5,000 to pump into this and is already a PPC expert for a web agency might just be able to start generating profits from day one.

However, someone coming from an unrelated background is going to have a much tougher time. Your odds of success depend on you, I wouldn't focus on what others have done because you are simply not them.

How long it took for me?-
-I guess it was 1 and a half year.

    With how many websites?-
-I believe it was 3 websites with many subdomains and 1 autoresponder.

When did I start multiplying my earning?
-As soon as I started outsourcing the donkey jobs and kept myself busy managing my team. I pay a lot of money to my outsourcers but I make much more profit in return.

Finding the right way to outsource is the key to success with multiplication by outsourcing.

Strictly speaking, I never had a "$1k per month" mark at all: I earned almost nothing for my first four-and-a-bit months, but then the month after that I suddenly earned over $3k.

That was from trying to do article marketing (without at first understanding how it worked ).

Answers here will vary, according to people's business models, among other things, I think? Perhaps people doing CPA will typically have slightly "smoother progressions"?

Be aware that your answers in this thread will come almost entirely from a small, unrepresentative, self-selected group: the overwhelming majority of all the people who never got to $1,000 per month at all (or even to $100 per month) are no longer here to answer your question.

Plus, you got to understand that times are different now and industries have changed. Making money in certain areas used to be a lot easier years ago when some of these people hit the 1k/month mark.

Some people did experience what you are saying. They already had well-established and well-trafficked sites and after pasting the adsense code, found they were making thousands each month. Not many but some did make a lot of money early on with adsense because there was so little competition.

No doubt Anton. The chance of this happening now with so much market saturation is similar to the odds of being struck by a meteorite....errr

I was getting $4.75 a click routinely back then and even had one click for $42.76. I don't even run AdSense any more so you can see how much that has all changed over the years.

When I was in it, I'd like it say it took me a couple of months to hit $1k a month. That was because I already had a pretty loyal following online and I was selling a product that was in high demand that was paid a high commission rate. Alongside that, I was also selling my own products as well.

30 websites in 3 months?! OMG...did you sleep?! It took me nearly 8 months to finish just ONE website. But...the next one was easier and it is only getting easier from here on out...but still, it takes me at least one month still to get one decent website up and running. One day, by popular demand, I decided to write an ebook about my topic of expertise which I advertised on the sidebar of the blog. The moment I wrote that ebook I made over $1,000/month right away. The rest was history from there (I realized the potential of Internet Marketing, so I expanded from there).

not true! actually my first $1 was the hardest. When I was finally able to make $1 online then I knew I was proabably onto something.

Then the first $1000 was still hard, but I just kept doing things that got me my first $1, which was listbuilding.

Then my first $1000 day was utilizing my list, and doing product launches.

Now it is all about testing, tweaking and outsourcing. 80% of my business is now outsourced and I get others to build my list, and doing that has taken my niches insanely profitable. I am not just in the IM niche, my main niches are elsewhere.

Again it all comes down to building llists and helping customers. Then segmenting my list between freebie seekers, and buyers, I swear that having a list of buyers in your list, is like having an atm hidden in your back yard.

Test and tweak different things too, if you send a message to your list and it makes you a truck load of money, then add it to your auto responder series. win win.

Again there will be nay sayers, but listbuilding is where its at. Think about how many time warriors say the money is in the list. I thought they were full of it, until I actually did it....u try and you will see some insane results.

    1 week.

But of course I wasn't doing online marketing. I was walking into businesses and demanding their money (in return for postcard marketing).

Since then I have come a long way. And it would take too long to explain what I do. But if you can't make $1,000 in 1 week, its my belief that you're not trying hard enough. Either that, or you are limiting yourself to things you have no experience in. I would have never tried to get my start in online marketing knowing that I had no real skills or ability to monetize my nonexistent skills.

So in real life, you are forced to do a thing I like to call "adapt".

If your current skills aren't paying you. Then they are not real skills. It is never about working hard, it is about working smart. If your skills aren't getting significantly better on a daily basis, then you are froze, and you will continue to not make any money.

TBO, I'm not even sure why I have to explain things like this. Making money involves a lot more common sense than most people realize (or are willing to realize because they want to sit on their asses all day doing nothing while getting rich).

One final thing. The only thing that has ever "motivated" me is results. If you can't immediately produce results in some way, you will never really be motivated. The reason I started in offline, is I knew I could make money quick, and that would then motivate me to develop skills online. Pick your battles wisely. Don't stick with something that doesn't make you money for too long, otherwise you are just stuck. You can come back to it whenever you want, but its really important to produce results somehow or you will never fully plow through the obstacles you need.

A little over two years, with two websites. I have a real job that pays the bills pretty well and so IM was just a sideline for a long time. (Still is to a certain degree.) So I wasn't in any rush.

Some people, through luck or talent, find success in IM very quickly. Your niche is going to make a difference as well. But there are definitely things that people can do across niches that are more or less proven revenue increasers. Shameless plug: I'm going to be coming out with a WSO in the not too distant future that is precisely aimed at people who have already made their first buck online, but haven't hit the $1K/month mark yet. (See my sig if you're interested.)

It took me around 2 months with one website(my second) and a head full of ideas and techniques (95% of them useless) and then about 6 more months to break 1k in a day. But that doesn't happen to often...

Then again you can say it took me 6 years considering I tried internet marketing back in 2005 and got burned pretty bad, returned in 2011 and never looked back

We broke the $1K/month mark in our fourth month. (And then broke $4K the next month, heh)

There are a few things that should be mentioned, though:

    - We had a "real" business behind it
    - We were down around $10K before we started to turn it around
    - I spent lots of personal time getting things up and running

It wasn't even close to automated or automatic...
