Can pictures be inserted into Ebooks?

Can pictures be inserted into Ebooks? (I thought I once
heard someone say that they make the file size much
larger... and customers don't like that very much).

Also, since most Ebook readers only display in black &
white, is it generally a bad idea to use color images?
(I was hoping to include some screenshots).

If you have any formatting tips regarding Ebook pictures,
I would greatly appreciate them.

With todays' devices, pictures are essential and encouraged with e-book creators, I have friends that created e-books and utilized this site eBook Adaptations

they never once had any complaints or compliance issues.

Its a little pricey but well worth it.

    Cheers,

"picture is worth a thousand words"

I would insert an image into an eBook to better illustrate instructions/guidelines on your product.

If for E.G you were creating an info product on how to create
"membership sites in 6 minute or less" than an image here and there would supplement your text.

Maybe if you are just talking about a topic in the eBook, an image can do you justice in that sense also.

      -Bottom Line-
      Go for it.

    Yes pics can be inserted.

Black and white eReaders are old school. They simulate a book very well but there are a LOT of color eReaders on the market now.

I just use a template for Word and add the pics...very simple.

Color ebook readers are incredibly popular and widespread. You shouldn't limit your ebook due to old technology. This would be like worrying about an image not printing properly with a dot matrix printer. Just make the image small so that it doesn't take forever to load and you'll be fine.

Yes, they can be inserted and yes, they make the file size larger. You should optimize the images you use to be the smallest file size that still has good enough quality to look decent.

As for color pics, what ebook readers are you talking about? If you're talking about Kindle, Nook, etc. they have models that display colored photos that are quite popular.

If you're talking about the standard info ebook that you find around here, they are generally a pdf and also display color.

I personally would use color where it is appropriate. I don't convert my photos to black and white to use in a pdf or an ebook of the Kindle variety.

I think it's a good idea to add images, and don't worry about file size.

Even free software like OpenOffice Writer will allow you to compress the images when you export the document as a PDF.

Just compress the images as much as you can, without losing too much quality.

Yes, you can and should use images in ebooks. I use images in Kindle books all the time. You want to make SURE that the image file size is optimized AND that the image isn't so large that it messes up your formatting on the regular Kindle devices.

    Also, always use color images.

Here's more information on Kindle images.
