Using SubDomain Affects Bounce Rate?

Hi Friends,

I created 2 sub-domains to show demo of my 2 products on my website. Now I'm using Google Adwords to attract visitors to my website. I found visitors have very high (80%) bounce rate.

In Google Analytics Real Time, I see visitors come to my site go to demo page then they disappear and reappear again and this time Google Analytics show them as referral visitors from my website.

Does using sub-domains affects bounce rate? Will moving demo files from sub-domains to a directory decrease bounce rate?

Regards,
Ankur :-)

I would say no. If you're bringing people to your sub-domain via PPC - they won't really care what the domain is. They're there due to your ad.

So, the high bounce rate will be due to your landing page not meeting the visitors' expectations.

NatesMarketing first of all thanks for the reply.

As I told visitors first come to my main domain then they goto sub-domain to view demo then they again come back to main domain. I see in Google Analytics real time. visitors appear, disappear and again reappear. I guess when visitors go to demo (sub-domain) Google Analytics consider it as visitor left the site (I guess it counts it for sub-domain) and when he come back Google Analytics counts it as a new visitor.

I'm pretty sure, an average visitors are staying atleast 2 min on my website but due to sub-domain the report is showing something different.

May be Google Analytics count domain and sub-domain visitors differently?

Well, Answer to my question is hidden in this paragraph of the guide you provided.

"Google Analytics tracks one domain or subdomain by default. You need to modify GA’s installation in order to allow proper tracking of your subdomains. If you do not, session information will not be shared across your subdomains and your data will be unreliable when users visit more than one of your subdomains in one visit."

Now I have 2 options to decrease bounce rate in my case,

    1) Use directory to show product demo.
    OR
    2) Modify Google Analytics in order to allow proper tracking of sub-domains.

Finally, Thanks for the help. :-)
