WebMd Massive Database of Articles

How can sites like WebMD get 10s of thousands of articles in just 5 years.

How does that work?

I'm willing to invest if I know the places but these are just massive sites.

Thanks!

JB

I'm not quite sure what you're trying to get across here, could you rephrase and/or elaborate.

By employing physicians, medical journalists, health reporters and editors with experience and professionalism, and by accepting some "licensed" and "sponsored" content as well.

    By selling advertising/"promotional" space.

Do you mean invest as in making your own site? If you do, then you should know that there are websites with just 10 articles that make some good money. You don't need thousands of articles to make money online, but it certainly does help.

If you don't mean that, then please clarify so that we can help you out.

WebMD is a Nasdaq listed company with revenues exceeding $1bn annually, most of it from drug companies, not from sponsored ads on the site. They generally use medical professionals for the content

Also, Google seems to love them, giving them top 3 spots for most high traffic keywords.

A lot of their turnover is from "sponsored content", Anton.

It's not exactly "ads", per se, but it's very much a form of selling advertising/promotional space. It's pretty much the same model that many offline trade/professional journals (which exist almost entirely for the purpose of selling advertising/promotional space in the form of "sponsored content") use. They do actually explain it fairly openly, on their site.

WebMD has been around a lot longer then 5 years. Go to Internet Archive: Wayback Machine and search their site, you can then see how it has developed over the years. If you look at a lot of articles on there, their source box will show the person who reviewed/revised the work. This is usually someone who has an acredited skill within the field. Unfortunatelly for me, it doesn't break down the subject in much detail as it is published for the everyday person (Obviously their market, just sucks for me ).
