if IM feels like a job, should I do it? Is this for me?

Hey everyone.

So I've been studying IM for longer than you think. And I think I'm saying this from a place of frustration, because I've tried to do so many different things, and none have worked.

And I see so many ways of making money, and I get frustrated because I can never make them work, and I'm starting to get frustrated, and thinking that I really shouldn't do this.

Listen: I'm not a marketer at all (not by nature at least). I've learned so much about marketing online, products, etc. , but when I see people making money online, I see them coming up with ideas, making twists to their campaigns or whatever, and those kind of things, I don't have them by nature.

I guess I just wanna hear stories, or maybe from people that weren't marketers at all, that have found their way to success on this market. Maybe I gotta focus more? I don't know. But my frustration is real, and I don't know what to do at this point.

Thanks yall in advance, for all your comments

I started off as a non-marketer, and learned as I went along.

My best advice is, don't jump around from idea to idea - but rather stick with something that you KNOW works and isn't just a "push button riches" product.

Build an email list in a (profitable) niche you have knowledge in. Give away an AWESOME freebie that they cant resist.
    Start a Blog
Do youtube videos promoting your blog, and other youtube videos promoting your freebee.

There are MANY different things that "work" - it's just a matter of finding which one you can make work for YOU.

Let's start here, you say you've been studying this for a while right? What EXACTLY have you tried, and how long have you tried it for?

How long do you TRY something before quitting and moving onto the next "great thing"?

    Cheers!

    Jeff

Edit: I'll show you something I did

    - I built this squeeze page using Lead Rocket: http://www.sexy6pack.net/
    - I direct traffic to that squeeze page via youtube
    - Once people opt in, they're taken to an OTO (one time offer) here: http://www.sexy6pack.net/Special-Offer.html - they can choose to buy a $7.00 Product, or simply say "no thanks, gimme my freebie"

No matter what they choose there, I've captured their email address and am able to market to them again, and again and again via email. :-)

It's simple, right? And it works - and best of all - my traffic to this URL is 100% free via youtube.

Making money online is not about just marketing. You don't have to only sell things to make money. You can simply make website about on any topic which you think you are passionate or knowledgeable of add Adsense to it & Boom you making some money here.
    OR
Think something different something no one has think off yet any new concept like makers of Myspace or Facebook did ! When they made such websites money was not in there mind they later realize that how big it went or What Youtube did with simple concept of video sharing.

I came in with no knowledge and blew all money on every shiny object that promised me a push button solution.

Find one method you think is doable for your skillset and keep at it.

If IM feels like a job, then you can try to outsource the monotonous or boring parts. This way you can concentrate on the tasks you like more.

Your title and content seem to be addressing two different issues

if IM feels like a job, should I do it? Is this for me? is the title of the topic and to address the title, personally it should feel like a job, albeit a job that you enjoy (most of the time anyway!). If you treat it as a hobby or work at it with the mindset your doomed to failure you will not succeed.

I'm guessing that many of the people that have had success from Internet Marketing do not come from a marketing background.

You say that you have been studying Internet Marketing for longer than we think but what action have you been taking on what you've been learning?

and certainly take a read of eljeffe77's post some great advice there.

IM is a job, just not a conventional one. If you're not seeing success yet, well, that's not that unusual. Comes faster for some than others, but with persistence it comes for everyone. You make mistakes and learn from them.

If you just don't like IM anymore, then there's no reason to stay in it. (Just like you wouldn't stay in any other job you didn't like.) Do something you enjoy, instead - life's too short.

In order to succeed there is definitelly a lot of work involved and you can count it as a job..you must do that work and that's your job..but.. also you must treat your job like a business!
Once you start treating your online work(jobs that need to be done) that you're doing for your self like a business, you'll start to grow rapidly..you'll see

Main point here is you must treat this like a business, not just a job..

I hope you this will help you at least a bit..

    Best of luck

Definately you must try it, even if you fail, you tried it! And try to get satisfaction from doing it, remember it`s a business and you`re doing it for yourself!

IM is a friggin' job - a lucrative one at that! It should feel like a job! That's what makes you wake up in the morning and act like a professional.

Forget this ridiculous idea that you need 'passion' to make it. It's a lie. You need drive - not love - to make a killing. If you want it bad enough you'll get it!

Well would you rather do IM as a job or go work in an office / factory / somewhere else as a job instead?

Choice is yours. When you start any new job do you instantly know how to do it? Probably not, you need to learn the ropes. IM is no different, don't think it's some easy way to sit back and relax and have tons of money handed to you on a plate.

You gotta focus on 1 thing.

Look back at the sites you've already built &
see why they aren't making money.

Stop looking for the next method, you already
know you should be building a list.

Set up an offer and drive traffic.

Create content ALL DAY, EVERY DAY &
    stop reading emails & wondering
'how to' if you already know.

    It's time to take action.

Ask yourself, is this something you want?
Would you be happier doing something else?

Only you can answer that question.

Money isn't everything, you gotta be happy too.

The one thing I have learned over the years in that when you do a few things and try to make them work, they tend not to. You just need to focus on one strategy and work it till it works out for you.

You may work with that one strategy for a few weeks and nothing will work out for you. That's OK too. Just keep at it. Try to play around it from all different angles. There is always a lesson to be learned from each setback. Also make sure that you find a good mentor that is doing really well and learn from them.

If people are already making money with what you are doing right now, then it is possible for anyone to succeed with it. It is just a matter of KNOWLEDGE that you may not have right now and something that you have not mastered YET.

    Never give up.

The best advice I can give to you is to stick to only one method.

Don't jump from method to method.

FOCUS on only one method and you will begin seeing greater success.

Just the subject of your post hit me hard. I've been at this for over 10 years, on and off, and no matter how bad I was doing, meaning making no money, and even costing myself money at times, marketing online has never felt like a *job* to me.

I have so much fun doing it, you could call it a passion. And it's that passion that kept me going through the really rough times.

If you're just feeling frustrated all the time, maybe it isn't right for you. I don't mean to sound negative, but a good hard look at what you really want may be in order to save yourself 10+ years of frustration. =)

One thing you need understand is internet marketing isn't easy. A lot of the marketing material that drives this industry makes it out to be a walk in the park... It's not.

Listen. Building an online business is no different from building any other business. It takes an insane amount of work. It takes falling on your face (often times for years upon years).

I read that the guy who started angry birds started and failed 39 different products before he finally nailed one.

This takes time... This takes work. Failure is to be expected...
