Shocking Facts About ClickBank

In 2006, I promoted a top clickbank product that pays 70% commission via PPC, and as a beginner then, I set my CB minimum payout to $2,000 because my target was to hit it big... And within 2 weeks, I had 7 sales @ $46.90 comm. each. I was amazed to see the sum total of $328.30 ($46.90 X 7) in my CB a/c

...I was expecting my check to arrive but nothing was forth coming, unknowing to me that I'd set my CB minimum payout to $2,000... And my clickbank earnings began to decrease... thought someone was stealing my money until my account was depleted to $0

ClickBank Review - Why ClickBank May Never Pay You! | LinkTrackr Dot Com (not affiliate link, just a useful article)

If you are a new CB affiliate, you can learn from my not too good experience.

Yeah, you gotta stay on top of your money. Most people don't set their minimum to $2000 and they login to their account. A good reminder nonetheless I suppose.

The reason the money was depleted was because of their Dormant Account Fees... http://www.clickscoop.com/avoiding-d...bank-accounts/

Change the minimum to 10 dollars and get those 5 sales!

  • Hahaha! Very funny story, TradingExpert. lol

I experienced the same thing too. I was wondering why CB started diminishing my earnings way back. Dormant fees can be a bummer when you're a complete beginner but I do think you'll get over and forget all about it as you gain experience as with anything else.

I totally forgot about Dormant Fees until MilesBaker mentioned it. lol

All you need to do, to circumvent the dormant account fees, is buy one $3/$4 product through your own affiliate link (or ask a friend/relative to do that for you). That re-sets the clock and gives you another 90 days to make another sale. It's an inconvenience, I suppose, for anyone who hasn't made a sale for 90 days, but it's hardly a disaster.

You account will become dormant if you don't make a sale 90 days after that first sale. (You have 83 days left)

The '5 sales' issue is related to the Customer Distribution Requirement.
There is no time limit involved.

I am always convinced that companies create those policies
so that they would always have cash on hand. They
would always owe you and not the other way around.

If you consider that the majority of ClickBank affiliates
do not make much money, you can see how quickly
those little amounts add up for the company. Bank
    fees are no different.

Well - they are trying to stop people laundering money, or treat clickbank as a bank I suppose.

I hate to say it, but that wasn't very smart for a beginner to set the minimum payout at $2k. Just make the minimum payout a much smaller amount and get paid weekly.

Is the dormant account issue also applicable to vendors and not just affiliates? So you put a product for affiliates to pick but no one picks it up or the affiliates who picked it up haven't sold it.

Clickbank steals a fortune this way. There should be something we could do about it, but it probably isn't possible. I wish someone would talk to a lawyer as it just seems that is stealing to take your earnings like that.

Well, "steals" is a strong word. It's part of the terms of service to which we've all signed up, after all. Howver, the dormant account charges are iniquitous, I do agree. And they may not even be legal (not all contractual terms would stand up in court, especially between parties contracting on an unequal basis). But probably nobody's going to test it in court, and ClickBank can rely on that and do nothing about it.

      It's easy.

All that anyone has to do, to avoid these dormant account charges being applied to their account, is to buy one $3/$4 product through their own affiliate link (or have a friend/relative do that) and that re-sets the clock and gives you another 90 days to make a sale.

      How difficult is that?

They did. ClickBank has had letters from lawyers (on both sides of the Atlantic!) expressing the view that the dormant account charges are unlawful, but that apparently didn't help. Kind of understandably, perhaps.

They're evidently not changing their minds about it.

The practical point is that there's a quick, easy work-around.

Nobody needs to pay these dormant account charges.

To have $5 per two-weeks removed from your account, when you can avoid all that just by buying a $3 product once, is just silly.

Indeed. And since they're the ones who have to honor the refund requests, I don't blame them for making sure of that. I'd want to do the same, in their position. Wouldn't you?

I had this happen for the very first sales i had with clickbank. Since my first $70 sale wasn't followed by anything (as i was also working with other networks) the commission dried up to nothing and i had to contact customer service because i thought it was a mistake. Live and learn.

These threads pop up every once in a while and people like Alexa offer workarounds to this problem.

However the most obvious way to resolve this problem is to be consistently making sales.

After all, we are on a marketing forum and selling something on the Internet. If we aren't making a sale every 90 days, especially since most of the products people are selling are cheap on Clickbank, there's something really wrong with what we're doing. In other words we aren't running a business or really marketing at all but playing around at a little hobby on the side. That's the real problem as I see it.

Well, beginner mistake, I didn't realize is too until I read a few article about dormant fee. One thing for sure, never let your clickbank account lay dormant for more than 2 month or so. Now that the lesson well received I am sure everyone will buy a cheap product to make sure their account don't get dormant. I thinking about buying some cheap apps for this occasion.

Clickbank, for some it was an update

Well this is a problem with a simple solution really... just make some friggin sales! Through your own link if you have to.

(and set your threshold low to begin with - you could've just set your threshold to $100 and have not a problem... don't make the same mistake twice! )

It would be interesting to know how much money Clickbank has made as a result of this policy. I'm betting it's a lot more than they've paid out!

I remember when I got my first check from Clickbank, 2 years after I first made commissions with a clickbank product! I kept getting a lot of paypal payments, and never the 5 credit card payments required. Then I got it through my thick skull that I could buy a $3 product through my affiliate link, and in a couple of weeks I got my first check.

It's pretty weird that the point of the Clickbank "CDR" is probably to prevent fraud and yet you can get around it by just using your own credit card and buying through your own affiliate link, but it worked for me.
