How I lost 20K In a Few Days From One Dead Simple Mistake...

So a few years back. I took a small vacation to Mexico.

Before I left I made damn sure that everything was in line for the 2 weeks I was going to be gone for.

Hosting Paid: CHECK!
Domain Registration Up To Date: CHECK
Backup Server: CHECK
Emergency Server Admin On Standby: CHECK
Database Backup Set every 2 Days: CHECK

Now since I knew I was traveling abroad I made sure to get a HOTEL that had internet. Of course I was taking my backup laptop with only the relevant information that my business needed in case something crazy happened.

I also got temporary international service for my phone number. It did work.

So bam, I’m out in Mexico and the two weeks I’m out there I’m having a blast... But the shit hit the fan at the end of that second week while we were in rural Mexico.

I don’t how the hell I could have forgotten such a stupid simple thing. It cost me 20K and a boat load of affiliate drop offs from a product that was KILLING IT at the time.

Clickbank tried to reach me to inform me of the problem during those few days but apparently my phone kept going to voice mail.

Just my luck at the time my voicemail didn’t work internationally. So it was either they got ahold of me or they didn’t.

Finally they got ahold of me. I remember answering the phone from one of the main hwys, we were on our way back to our hotel. No matter what direction I looked in, it was farmland and the hotel was 4 hours away.

They said we have been trying to get ahold of you all week, we have shut down your clickbank account…

THERE WAS A LONG PAUSE. I SAID WHY?

She said because your emails are bouncing back for the main email address we have for your account!

(FACE PALM!!!!!)

To make things worst It was Friday 3 P.M Clickbank time and they were about to close for the weekend at 5 PM, which meant that I needed to take care of this problem within 2 hours!

With the hotel 4 hours away, we had to do an emergency re-route to a local town on the map and hope to god that they had some kind of internet café or else my site would be down for the entire weekend!

Luckily for me they had just opened one in this small town the week before. I paid my quarter, logged on, gave my inbox more space and called clickbank back to get the damn account activated again.

Apparently the only thing I didn’t check was to see if my private email inbox was emptied out before I left. That simple stupid mistake cost me thousands!
Man, I’ll never forget that day.

Lesson of the day. Empty your email inbox or give it more space before you leave. OR LIKE Will said: "Always give your mail boxes unlimited quota"

Disagree - what's the point of working your ass off if you don't reap the benefits by taking a break?? The lesson I think is attention to detail, not to chain yourself to the desk

Right, you could have a product that's been killing it for a year straight, of course at some time you are going to need a break and even a break from technology. It's good for the soul and gets you recharged.

If your product is as big as you said, then there's probably a whole lot of things that need to be done in order to maintain it, right? It's probably better to have someone else help you out, some sort of assistant. That way, in case you need to be someplace where there's little to no internet connection then you wouldn't have to worry about who's looking after your sites, or your inbox for that matter.
At the time I did have a company out in the Philippines taking care of emails but they did not have permission to delete them.

Absolutely. The damn though of leaving my business for 2 days unattended frighten the hell out me. But man I needed a break. I though I had everything in line but unfortunately I didn't, lesson learned.

LOL, I'll also be providing a bonus video on how to find the nearest hotspot in Mexico when your under the gun!

I should have put clickbank account there. They don't control my site. However they do control my merchant account(clickbank account).

When the invoice & support emails they were sending me started bouncing. They had to pull the plug.

      Don't let it happen.

At that time I there was no data plan that worked on my phone in the location I was going. During those few days that I was gone I had ZERO access to the internet.
